Mine is really getting out of hand with so many different magazines. How do you store yours? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just went on Google and there are hundreds of ideas. Saw some I might get for my magazines, lots of storage ideas that look like winners.

Living in CA with our 10 rounds per mag laws, I've bought a lot of them so I don't need to reload (much) at the range. I keep my AR & AK mags in separate, clear plastic bins so they stay clean and dry when not in use. And, I tend to keep my favorite mags in the rifle case pockets for immediate access. I keep my pistol mags in large baggies labeled for each pistol. Not sure if that's what you're looking for, but I hope it helps.

I put extras mags in extra Amazon boxes that seem like an OK fit, then I put the variety pack of cardboard boxes, into a storage tub, tub goes on a shelf. I was thinking of switching to having them hang on the inside of my cabinet, magnet pouches or whatever, but I don't have any current use for them, they are extra or for guns not currently in the rotation.

I don't have a whole bunch of magazines. I just got a couple of Amazon boxes that were the right size and that's what I stack them in.

As for my rifle magazines, I just put them in an old M16 bandolier

Plastic "shoebox" organizer bins for each individual gun (they have different sizes for different needs depending on type of firearm), fits magazines, spare/OEM parts and literature with the gun. Tape on the front designating what is inside and placed on a high shelf that is easily seen and accessible in the gun closet/room/man cave/bunker/armory/etc.

Also, every handgun gets it's own pistol rug that has elastic bands to house usually 5-6 magazines. One can find them on amazon for $30 or so.

I keep a plano tote with most of my new uncirculated mags and I keep about a dozen+ in my range bag that get used and for ready access magazines for HD I have a handful here and there loaded. It's good to buy a bunch, people (like me) can become blindsided with silly legislation and it can just come out of nowhere and get rammed through quickly.

MTM makes a 1911 magazine can. I store different mags from Ruger MK's to double stacks in one.

I had the same issue a couple years ago.

Each pistol is assigned one of these little bins for its mags. The pistol model is sharpied on the top of the little bin and if it isn't obvious, the magazines go into the bin.

Each of these bins gets stacked in the tote of your preference. I currently use Rubbemaid Brute 14 gallon.

I'm in the process of changing over to a new system. I'm building a gun vault, because I have the same issue with rifles.

The new system will consist of these 3D printed Mag holders on slat wall. They're made by some dude in MO who runs "Hammy3DPrints." **No affiliation, customer only.

Each type of pistol and rifle magazine will have its own holder and it will all be located in my new vault.

ETA: Even if you don't have slat wall, this guy makes all sorts of mag holders for different types of walls. Its worth checking out his site. They're EXTREMELY durable, no way you'll break them as you might suspect with 3D printed products.

Rifle (AR, AK, other) magazines are in plastic totes. The issue is access…I have to move a bunch of stuff to get to them.

I just took an inventory this morning of my pistol magazines: 127 non-1911 mags and 80+ 1911’s of various sizes/capacities. I have been using fabric storage pouches that hold 6-8 mags each. They’re convenient for the range but keeping hem organized and easy to spot has been challenging. The 8 packs have a rigid “spine” on the top where I have the platform written in Sharpie. The smaller 6-packs are flatter so the labeling is on the front flap, which means I can’t read it when they are stacked up. There are worse situations to have, so I just keep trying to rearrange them to find the easiest way to access hem.

Unfortunately my storage space is in my office and it’s pretty limited (and I’m sure it’s more space than my wife would prefer), so I just have to make do!

I use these for loaded mags…

Wow HKGuns! That Hammy3dprints site is amazing. You just cost me $82 even with the 20% discount good through today!

Isn't it? I just stumbled upon it looking for slat wall mounting solutions. I am not sure how much I've spent to date, but its been considerable and I haven't started on any of my pistols yet. Plus I have over a hundred AR mags to accommodate.

If you don't see something you need you can contact him, send him a sample magazine and he'll design the mount at no extra cost. I sent him a UMP, HK91 and a PPS43 mag so those will probably be available soon.

I think I'll have to send him a few more before I'm complete, as I don't see some that I need.

ETA: Since I'm not a unicorn, he deserves a link.

I store my extra P7 and Radom mags in a biometric floor vault with laser tripwires.

Heck, they are worth more than some of my actual guns....😉

  1. Things I use a lot — In the range bag. I have one (appx) per cartridge in no small measure because of solving the OPs issue for myself about 10 years back. So the 5.56 bag, for example, has mostly M4 mags, a few SIG mags, a few HK33 mags, a few Galil mags. Mostly loaded and when cartridges vary (I have both 55 and 62 ball, and a few mags of 64gr Gold Dots) I tape the bottom of the mag (bullets always down) on the outlier weight/profile.
  2. Things I use less — In the divider bin that slides out in the cage, where handguns are stored, behind each row (behind each gun) is room for about 6-8 mags. Less organized for spare long-guns or uppers, in the other slide out drawer, but similar in the bin near the gun / bit.
  3. Spares — Just a generic storage bin, mix of Lewis Bins and silly Rubbermaid under bed storage on top of a tall shelf.

I built some handgun racks for my safe and put some cubbies under each gun slot for mags.
So with mags stored next the guns, it's easy to take the correct ones with the nearby gun.
I use a silver sharpie to mark gun model on the mags, as well as my name on mags used in run/gun games.

I have found similar racks made of foam but they don't have mag cubbies.

Extra Radom mags? What are those? I have two Radoms (pre-war and Occupation) and two magazines.

Have you tried any of his magnetic mounts? I have space on the exterior of my safe for AR mags…but I notice the description says “unloaded magazines”. I don’t have any of those…I wonder if the magnet would be strong enough or that’s just a standard disclaimer. I’ll probably contact him and see.

He even has racks for my Saiga S12 mags!

The story I got was the seller didn't even know his grandfather had a gun until they found the extra magazine, then went looking for a gun to match. They found it wrapped in a pillowcase at the top of the bedroom closet. Both wartime bringbacks. 😁

The economical and simple solution is a plastic tote (or totes depending on volume and space) and 1-2 gallon ziplock bags. Mags are sorted by platform and stored in marked ziplock bags, and all are kept in a Rubbermaid tote.

I do a mixture myself…loaded mags are stored in a MTM mag box.

Common used range mags are in my range bag.

Extra and seldom used mags are stored by type in plastic shoe boxes which I was given. Otherwise, these would be in the ziplocks as mentioned above.

That's what I do with my handgun mags that aren't otherwise in service. MidwayUSA has some pretty inexpensive pistol bags with mag slots on one side, and 2 bellows pockets on the other. I have OD green ones for the autos, and black ones for the revolvers.

Note: It looks like they have changed their pattern. Mine are a bit larger than their current offering, and the new ones don't have the bellows pockets on the off-side. They probably work well for standard autos and revolvers, but I would miss the pockets. YMMV...

I have an MTM AR mag storage box for my Magpul AR mags. I actually need to get another because I still have some stacked in a box (the 20rd AR mags.) I really like that idea of the MTM pistol mag case...

I have not. I would shoot him the question using his contact form to be sure. Some of his mounts specify loaded and unloaded so I figure there is probably a reason for that.

I emailed Hammy at 6 AM and had a reply an hour later. I misread the magnetic description - he has one version for unloaded and another for loaded with beefed up magnets. I ordered two for the outside of my safe plus a couple of wall mounted Saiga S12 holders. Looking forward to receiving them!

I find that Amazon, Midway, and other vendors provide convenient size cardboard boxes.
The box that Montana Bullet Works packages cast bullets in will hold a gun's worth of magazines, maybe a couple dozen single stack pistol clips.

It is definitely important to be organized with your magazines. I am actually hunting around my house looking for a container that has a bunch of 10rd and 5rd AR magazines that I like to use for one of my AR's that's scoped. Can't find the damn thing.
