I know questions get asked about should you leave them full or empty and most seem to agree that cycling the magazine (firing the gun) is what wears them out but what kind of round count can one expect to get out of one? reason i ask is i am about to buy a XD45 service NIB and i don't think i am going to be shooting it often due to ammo costs, i really don't want to buy a pile of mag's for it when i could be investing it on others i would use more often, i have seen the Glock/XD torture tests but unless i missed it did they use the same mags in the test or did they have a pile they rotated? Thanks.

I know of one person who has a 1950's era Colt military 1911 and still uses the original couple of mags that his father received with the pistol (was issued to his father for Korea - not sure of how he came to keep it). He tells me that as far as he knows, they are completely original. And they still work fine.

I would think for decent quality springs, you'd be talking thousands to 10's of thousands of cycles. And you can always rebuild them (springs and followers) for less then new mags.
