I have well over a dozen magazine-fed handguns, but no organized way of storing them. In fact, I have a bunch of them just sitting on the bottom shelf of my safe and it’s a pita picking the right ones out of the there. I guess I can store them in a plastic tub, so they are all in one place, but don’t like to mix them together. And even though they are just magazines, I don’t like them scratching one another.

Anyways, I am looking for ideas on how you store yours. I would like some kind of organizer that can store them compactly. I’d prefer some off-the-shelf product, rather than anything custom-built.

Thanks

I use a 5.11 Single Pistol case from Magill's. Item number TAC67-BK. It zips open. One side holds your pistol in a zipped pouch, the other side holds up to 5 magazines. I had the same problem you have till I got a few of these.

I am sure there are other dealers for this product.

Here's what I ended up doing when I had the same dilemma last year. I found some shoe boxes at The Container Store (sadly, these boxes don't seem to be on their website) and they're the perfect height for pistol mags. For what they are, they're really kinda expensive. If I remember right, they run about $6 or $7 each. There are perforations on one end that let air circulate so it doesn't trap moisture too.

I know how you feel. I have 25 autoloading pistols (each has at least 3 mags) and used to just pile them in a box. More than once I went to the range and brought the wrong mags.

I went cheap and sorted them by pistol type and caliber and store them in ziplock bags.

Perfect timing. I was going to start a thread on this very topic. My issue is that I have in the neighborhood of 80 autoloaders (I never count...plausible deniability) and usually four mags each for most of them, some only one or two, some with seven or eight. Luckily many of the mags interchange between guns thanks to makes like S&W, HK, Walther and Steyr. Still, I have neded up with hundreds of mags. Right now they sit in a cabinet on shelves. I'd love to keep them my handgun valult, or even in one of my rifle lockers, where the humidity is controlled, but they are busting at the seams as it is. So far there haven't been any rust issues other than a SIG 2340 mag that I discovered yesterday that was bought used with a small patch of rust. The major issue is that these mags aren't organized and finding the right mag is a royal pain. A few of those mags are for guns that I don't even own any more.

What I'm thinking about doing is getting the same thing that I use to store many of my knives, those plastic multiple pullout drawer organizers that you can get at Lowes for about $15. I might also think about finding a small cabinet that they could fit into so that humidity could be controlled. Luckily I have a very dry basement.

This issue makes me appreciate revolvers all the more. This has to be dealt with or I'm going to go nuts. It will also allow me to do a mag inventory so that I know what still needs to be purchased for which guns.

I bought a piece of felt and made these muti-pocket, foldable "Mag Bags" for most of my mags. I have about 80 mags and these allow me to stack them all easily or roll one up and toss in my range bag. Cost me about $5 total, a little time and the wife willing to let me touch her sewing machine.

They work great.:D

You could also just buy some tupperware and cut holes in the top/sides so air can circulate.
