Well just when I thought I had it all figured out more research leads me to another option. I feel like a college kid cramming for my finals exam. One of the members here provided a link in another thread with a pretty detailed write up on several 1911's. The Magnum Research fared very well. So what are everyones thoughts?

Here is the write up and link

Desert Eagle 1911G

The next entry is one of the newer models on the market, in the Desert Eagle 1911, and its built by BUL in Israel. This model became available in the Spring of 2010 and was a pleasant surprise from a quality standpoint in this price range. At $650, it has the best trigger of any 1911 this side of the STI Trojan and certainly the best trigger in its price range, just edging out the STI Spartan, in my opinion. This pistol features a steel mainspring housing, which others in this category don’t. The grips are nicely made wood double diamond style. Its complete with a beveled magwell and a full length guide rod. The sights are combat style with, again, no dots. This frame is the only one in the category that’s machined for a high hand grip under the trigger guard. The slide roll marks are very large on the left side, with nothing whatsoever on the right. I only have about 250 rounds through this gun, but it performed very well at the range. I'm not quite ready to say that this 1911 is a better gun than the STI Spartan, due to my limited experience and the gun's limited track record. However, the finish and feature set are also both nicer than the STI’s, along with the previously mentioned trigger. Both are about the same price.

This 1911 uses no firing pin safety.

Unloaded weight: 39.8oz

Slide: Forged carbon steel

Frame: Cast carbon steel

Country of origin: Israel

Approximate 2011 street price: $650

I haven't heard anything bad about it. When I was searching for my 1911 earlier this year it was one of the top contenders and the only reason why I didn't get it is because I found a better deal on something else.

I wonder if this is a Tanfoglio-based gun. They sell a lot of 1911s in Europe, it seems. Magnum Research is, I think, an importer, like EAA, not a manufacturer.

There a few people on this board that will not buy this pistol out of loyalty to Michael Kassner of the now defunct Charles Daly. Michael spent the money developing the pistol and contracting it through BUL of Israel, and they ended up letting Magnum do the U.S distribution. Some believe it was the coup de gras of Charles Daly. Michael is a very nice and customer centered executive, I won't ever buy a BUL or MR firearm.

I have had quite a few 1911's in the past. I got the urge again and bought a DE1911C. It was a little odd in that the C model barrel is 4.33". Fit and finish is great. Trigger is right around 4 lbs. Replaced grips with Kimber rubbers.

It is a shame what happened to Charles Daly, & it certainly wasn't right the way it went down. I still have to wonder what the thought process was on Bul's part to lose their US distributor.
That said the pistols are quality & well made.

When KBI released the mock ups of the G4 1911, it was elegant and clean. After MR got their paws on it, they put that large billboard on the slide and ruined the aesthetics of the pistol.

Like those cheapo STI's.
