To my embarassment, I've tried reloading my Leatherman into my P7M8. Since then I've carried it on the strong side to keep from confusing it with my magazines.

Problem is if I put just the mags on the weak side and the gun, phone, Leatherman, OC, on the strong side, I'm going to walk around in circles.

Other than practice, is there any recommendations of how I can place the stuff on my belt more...ahem...tactically?

TIA

I try to carry things the same as they are on my duty belt. That cuts the muscle memory confusion, but isn't really relevant to your situation.

Have you looked at the use of pockets. Maybe if you get some of the stuff off your batbelt that will help.

Skunky my boy...

you are suffering from an affliction known as "Bat-Belt Syndrome"- a condition common among policemen after about 1985.

Once upon a time, Joe Cop carried a sidearm, a couple of reloads, and handcuffs. Usually somewhere on the belt was also a ring-type holder that would carry either your bludgeon-light, or a serious war-club. Your Motorola handset had carrier with a stud that fit into a carrier on your belt. It got a lot more complicated after that, based largely upon political correctness and fad technology. The other day I saw one of my uniformed contemporaries walking around with probably six-seven pouches around his belt, not counting weapon/radio stuff, and a Taser gun in a tactical thigh holster on his left leg. He looked like a Gall's catalog on legs. If he fell down, you couldn't help him up without getting ahold of something you probably shouldn't touch.

Carry what you can reasonably expect to need in an emergency situation, on your person. Fifty bucks, your sidearm, a reload, your cellphone, a light, stout knife and a small flashlight. Carry everything else in your attache' or other tote.

Don't let "Bat-Belt Syndrome" ruin your mobility or complicate your life. When it hits the fan, mobility and simplicity will get you a lot further into the safe zone than all the gadgets in the world.

Jeff, the stuff is usually in my pocket, but I didn't like the way it jangled around. Right now all I have on is my Leatherperson, gun and mags. I hate having the Leatherperson in my pocket (too heavy and bounced around) but I use that more than anything else I carry.

Compromised and let the phone bounce around in the pocket. Not sure how I'm gonna carry the OC when it comes in.

Being a volunteer EMT, i have a lot of pagers/radio's on me....don't know what i'll do when i cet a CWP. On my belt there is usually a cell phone, 2 pagers, pepper spray, occasionally a surefire light, but i found that outside of working, those little LED keychain lights work well for most tasks. I figure with the CWP i'll carry the gun strongside spare mags in a pocket mag holder, pagers/cell weak side. I'm not sure what to do with the pepper spray because if i have it weak side i'm way unbalanced and if i have it strong side i stand the risk of accidentally exposing my firearm when i'm going for the pepper spray, thereby escalating a situation more than intended.

Consider also that the more you pack onto your belt, the less likely you are to be able to get to the non-lethal gear without exposing the lethal gear...

I try to keep everything except for my weapon off of my weapon side. Spare mags could be confused for another item if someone catches a flash of them, but a sidearm kinda has a distinctive shape...

For me (waist as a circle), it's sidearm at 100 degrees, keys at about 275 degrees (tethered to one of those clippy things, hanging down into my pocket), Leatherman at about 265 degrees, spare mag(s) at about 255. Cell phone in right cargo pocket, Surefire in left cargo pocket. Cold Steel Voyager clipped to either right hip pocket.

Works for me.

Oh yeah, pen clipped to the right cargo pocket as well.

OK I don't carry all that (no pager, at least) and figured out a solution--mount the Leatherman horizontally (duhhhh) so I don't grab it, but it's still on the weak side.

Funny, Daniel.

Concealed carry:

I find that if I keep my pouched knves or multi-tools behind my magazine(s) I cannot get to them without purposely bypassing the magazine(s).

The knife/MT tool pouch is possitioned at roughly 8 o'clock, with around an inch seperation from the magazinie(s).

I just recently cut down on what I carry. Was carrying for awhile:

1. Pistol, IWB, strongside
2. Magazine, IWB weak side
3. Surefire E2E weak side pocket
4. Pepper spray, strong side pocket
5. SOG Flash II weak side pocket
6. Cell phone clipped inside strong side pocket.
7. Checkbook weakside back pocket
8. Wallet strongside back pocket
9. Car keys

I now just keep the stuff near me. I put the flashlight, pepper spray, cell phone, knife in my soft brief case or coat pocket. Put some checks in my wallet. If I go some place like the mall or a movie, I put the stuff in my pockets then. But it all hit me when I dropped my daily carry and it covered half the kitchen table one day. I was carrying too much crap.

I carry wallet, keys, and pistol. That's it.

I used to carry a Mag Lite, until I lost it, and I also used to carry a Swiss Army Knife, until I realized that for the amount of weight and bulk it added, I hardly ever needed it. The flashlight was much more useful.

I miss having a flashlight on me, and I really should carry one extra mag, so I'm getting myself a small ARC light and then I'm going to have a single mag pouch with attached flashlight loop made. The mag pouch will either use a spring clip or snaps so that I don't have to take off my belt everytime I want to put on or take off the pouch. I use the same methods for my two carry holsters.

After I add the extra mag and flashlight, I'm stopping there.

Try carrying less stuff. You'll be amazed how much lighter you'll feel. The first time, you'll feel like you can FLY.

I don't even want to try and imagine all the problems that would cause Skunk. I can hear it now " what do mean it does not come in carbon fiber?":D

I'm still carrying stuff in the same place as I always have. Older I get , the more I appreciate " keep it simple" and "less is more". I just came back from running errands including the dreaded grocery store.

Money clip had cash ,DL and CCW tickets-LF pocket.
Gun IWB
keys with small ASP sapphire light RF pocket, clipped to pocket a knife.
shirt pocket had smokes and Zippo.
extra mag for 1911 LR pocket.
hankerchief RR ...dunno grew up not dressed w/o one. cleans my glasses I guess.
That was it. Other than my infamous carry of glass container of something to drink, in this case IBC Root Beer.
With a heavy bottle already in hand, I have a tool very quick to employ. No sudden moves, looks innocent, attracts no attention. Maybe I need to start a class and makes monies on the defensive use of the bottle...nevermind, anyone raised in the South , familar with Long Necks, Fri nights, already knows the effectiveness. I don't drink booze, but I did retain the principles and lessons.

OC and other stuff in truck.

Funny, reading what some folks feel is absolute minimal gear. I worked as a Federal Agent for 27 years, and carried:
Handgun
Spare mag
Cuffs
Radio
All on my belt
Knife, wallet, badge case, Commisson book, in my pockets.
I never felt under equipped. My flashlight was in the car, along with a lot more gear.
Today, I would add:
OC (smallest container I could find), cell phone (smallest package), and add a small flashlight. Multi tool would go in car.

Simplify, your mind is your primary defensive tool.

my daily gear...

Wallet in right rear pocket
Palm M505 in front right
Kimber TLE in an IWB right side (or glock 26 if its hot out)
Keys and cell phone in front left pocket
Smallest pepperspray available in either vest\coat\fleece pocket
spare mag left belt.

Never had any problems. It sounds like alot, but its all pretty narrow width.

Skunkibilly,

The gear you are carrying is fine. Don't leave something in the drawer or safe when you think you may have to use it in a deadly force encounter.

A couple of suggestions:

1. Carry the multi-tool in a pouch with a manual fastener (fastex buckle, etc.) so you know if you grab it in a gun fight or deadly force encounter, you will immediately notice what it is. Magazines in a kydex, open top carrier.

2. I teach my people to keep the multi-tool/OC/knife items away from the weak side mags to avoid "panic confusion". Put one in behind your holster, one in your pants pocket, or, if absolutely necessary, go with a weak side horizontal rig for knife or light.

3. The more you train, the more muscle memory under stress you will develop.

4. Lastly, make sure you can get to everything you carry with both hands. There is nothing worse than to be fighting for your life with some animal on the ground and you can't get to a piece of equipment you need due to it being "out of reach". I learned this one the hard way...:banghead:

John, it's because I have my horizontally mounted carbon-fiber pattern Leatherman rig now :D

Very nice. I found that the large Night-Ize pounch I got from you not only fits the Mini-Maglite and Leatherman, it nicely holds a spare M1 Carbine 15-round mag! :)

Skunky,

Where did you get that HS/LD carbon fiber Leatherman rig? I have been looking for a combo that will hold my Leatherman Supertool and SureFire C2 Centurian in kydex or Carbon fiber for awhile now.

Jeff

Jeffy,

It's by Blade-Tech. It's not real CF, it's only CF-patterend Concealex (kinda like Kydex? Maybe it's Kydex??).

I know they make it for the Wave, but not sure if they make it for the Supertool (Supertool 200??) or the C2 (is the C2 different than the Z2??)...your best bet would be to call them. They can make custom stuff, if you don't mind the wait (which sucks). I was going to have them make one for my cell phone but couldn't go without it (since it's my INternet) but they were willing to do that...and a carbon fiber Nalgene tactical yuppie canteen holster, as well :D

After my experience w/ their doublemagpouches I'm not sure if I trust double anything from them any more. I like being able to rotate the things horizontally so they don't jab into my little ribs and can't really do that (well you can but it won't work) with doubles.

I've modded mine a bit, but standard as follows

Strongside IWB HK USP
Weakside IWB 1 Mag Carrier more towards back
Weakside OWB Cell phone more towards front
Strongside pocket, Clipped on Benchmade
Strongside pocket, in pocket, leatherman Juice
Weakside pocket Surefire E2e
Back Strongside Wallet

With either Cargos or Dockers Slacks
Strongside cargo pocket Surefire E1e with LED Head
Weakside cargo pocket 2nd magazine

Also Skunk, the only time I use the double mag pouch by Bladetech is when I'm competing or taking a class, your much better off with 2 singles if you want to carry that way, I use the Sidearmor pouches simply because they are smaller and more comfortable.
