My first impression was not so good. Simply because the CTR was a bit heavier than my standard stock (CTR weight with butt-pad 0.57 lb). I can imagine that you would feel the same way if you were a believer in weight savings. But the added weight was definitely not a show stopper, simply a minor observation. Those feelings instantly went away after the install and shouldering of the weapon for the first time. The added rear weight balanced out the rifle acceptably. Because this part is a drop-in replacement, the install was a snap.

As always, Magpul makes a quality product. Its streamlined A-frame design is great for avoiding snags and offers an overall trouble-free experience. The release latch is shielded within the A-frame and it’s a great innovation as I have not had a single issue with accidental release latch operation. The friction lock is an outstanding feature. In my case, it eliminated 99 percent of the wobble. On Magpul's website, it states that friction lock performance may vary depending on the receiver extension's dimensional tolerances. The reality that it will improve your accuracy is debatable, but anything that helps dial-in your technique is progressive.

The materials used are of high-quality and its construction makes it a lot stronger over the standard carbine stock. There is also a significant cheekweld improvement over stock. The sloping cheekweld provides great support and comfort. The mil-spec model comes equipped with a removable 0.30” rubber butt-pad. During the evaluation, the butt-pad acted more as an anchor than reducing the weapon’s felt recoil. Just like most rubber butt-pads on rifles, it helped with slippage and the system had no issues with staying put. I had no problems accommodating a Magpul ASAP and you also have the option to use the ambidextrous push-button QD sling mounts.

At this time, the only negative point I’ve found was the added weight over the standard stock. Other than that I feel that it was a great upgrade to my system. It is currently listed on Magpul’s website for $97.00. There are a lot of great stock upgrades out on the market but due to all its features and price; I felt it was the clear winner. I would highly recommend this stock to any and all LEO, MIL, sport shooters and weekend plinkers.

I have a CTR stock on my .223 Saiga and I love it. It's great, and the extra lock up definitely takes a lot of play out of the stock.

Mags - The cheek weld is just about the same as any other collapsible stock I've used, and maybe just a touch better due to a little extra material up top.

i've found the cheek weld to be DRAMATICALLY better than the standard m4 stock, any of the ACE stocks, and of course, stuff like CAA. however, the CTR cheek weld isn't quite as good as their m93b or UBR. and it's not as good as the LMT sopmod or the vltor stocks.

The version that fits commercial tubes has a thicker rubber pad, it also has a pocket so that the stock will collapse further. I wish now I had bought mil-spec versions.

A semi-related review: The DSA mil-spec buffer tube is a looser fit on my new Magpul MOE stock than I'dd like, not sure if buying a more expensive tube would help or not.

The CTR is obviously heavier than a milspec M4 stock when you hold them side by side. Due to the fact that this weight is all the way tucked in to your shoulder, it doesn't really make any difference in the way the rifle handles.

In my opinion, the "friction lock" is the nicest feature of the CTR; it does do a nice job of taking out the bit of play that is evident with an M4 stock. Other than that it handles pretty much just like a regular M4 stock. The cheekweld is nicer, but not as dramatically different in feel as what you get with a SOPMOD, in my opinion.

I think it is a good value; it gets you most of what the SOPMOD does at half the price.

I agree, the friction lock is great. It's Interesting that the M4 stock wiggle was never bothersome for me until the CTR came out. Hehe

I recently put one on my Stag 15L, and I couldn't say anything more that you didn't already in the original review.

As for the question about the cheek weld - I've had a similar experience to Taliv in that it's better than the original, but I don't know how (I guess it just is).

If anyone is dying for one of these stocks and wants to risk dealing with Botach Tactical, they are having a 20% off sale on anything Magpul. Use "magpul" in the coupon code. The email note for the sale didn't have a deadline, so it could be a couple of days or a couple of weeks. I don't know. I got it this morning. They list the stock at $92.15 minus 20% would be a nifty savings.

The cheek weld comfort is hard to explain. For me the M4 stock feels thinner on my cheek. The CTR feels like it covers more area on my cheek.

I am going to be also testing a MOE stock on another rifle. I let you know how it runs.

I always disliked the sloppy feeling of the standard M4 stock. I have purchased 3 CTR stocks. I love the way they lock up tight. I would buy one again.
