This Springfield 4" 1911 seemed really stiff & tight for a basic GI model costing $489. The recoil spring was very stout & there was very little play between slide & frame.

Range trip #1. 100 rds of Magtech 230gr ball & 100 rds of Fiocchi 230gr ball just to loosen up the gun. Using the only SA mag that came with it, I had 5 failures to eject the spent case. It was always the last rd in the mag. Gold Dot JHP just didn't feed well at all. Other than that, this GI checked out fine. The little GI sights are plenty viable for personal defense out to 50 or so feet under rapid fire, two hands free standing.

Range trip #2. 150 rds of UMC green box using a the SA mag plus a new Kimber mag and two mags from a WWI 1911 I inherited from my grandpa.

UMC 230gr ball gave the SA GI fits with the Kimber mag. The SA mag and the ancient Colt WWI mags feed it fine. I bought more Magtech & Fiocchi 230gr ball and ditched the UMC and then this GI 4" began to run real well with all mags.

The next 50 rds were about 99% problem free, so I bought 40 rds of Speer Gold Dot JHP and it feed nearly perfect with only one jam.

I ran about an other 75 rds of Magtech & Fiocchi ball as fast as I could with 4 consecutive mag fulls and this GI ran perfectly.

I concluded that this GI was just built real tight down there at Imbel in Brazil and it took about 400 rds to get it good and broken in.

One more thing, It prints within a silver dollar at 21' with careful off-hand aiming using quality ammo.

Overall as of today, I'm using it as my CCW and it feels great to go cocked & locked with 45acp after all the years of using DA/SA 9mm's. ;)
