I was reloading some 40 S&W today using Magtach SP primers. There were a lot that were really loose fitting. I switched over to CCI and had no issues. Has anyone else encountered loose Magtech primers?

Thanks!

Primers just like primer pockets have SAAMI specifications they should comply to.

In this case my guess is the CCI primers are wider but that does not necessarily mean the Magtech primers are not in specification. Those same Magtech primers may fit snug in another case. Measure a few selected at random.

How many times have the cases been reloaded? If mixed brass, some of the cases may have enlarged primer pockets.

I have found Magtech SP comparable sizing to Winchester SP (and best feeding primer even for finicky Pro1000 priming attachment).

For cases fired multiple times with enlarged primer pockets, I use slightly larger diameter Fiocchi SP primers to extend the life of brass.

Probably your (Bad) brass...

During this last week I have used close to 1K of Magtech Small Pistol primers.

I have loaded them in 9MM, .38 Spl., and .40 S&W.
Used mostly F.C. brass in the 9MM
Used mostly R.P. brass in .38 Spl.
Some F.C. in .38 too.
Used mostly G.F.L. brass in the .40 caliber

Did NOT have ONE primer related problem in all of the loads..

I would say some of your brass is defective??...Bill.

ok thx for the info. I will pitch any brass when in doubt. I'll give the primers a measure...

Yea wouldn't the brass be the more likely culprit here?

I'm pretty sure they're a decent outfit. I've always gotten a lot out of their brass, and I like their loaded stuff too. It's actually one of my favorite brands but it's a bit hard to find around here.
