It wouldn't have killed them to say "30-06, thirty caliber bullet" or "8mm Kurz, a short thirty caliber round."
THAT was the other thing that bugged me about Mail Call that night. Gunny said that the StG-44 used a "short, .30 caliber round"...
.30 caliber is 7.62mm (.308--or .311 if you're a Brit or Ruskie... )
8mm is .338 caliber, IIRC.
Guess Gunny missed the last episode of "Guns & Ammo TV" where they addressed shooting the RIGHT ammunition in the RIGHT firearm...
