An elderly close friend who does not keep up with firearm values is wanting to sell his Norinco Mak-90 7.62x39mm. He says he bought it decades ago, test fired it on just one outing, cleaned it and it's been in his safe ever since. He says it's in very good condition inside & out and ran perfectly. Included would be a 30 round mag and a 5 round mag.

I see asking prices on the auction sites for these in the $1500 range in this condition but so he can have a legit expectation of what it should bring I / he will appreciate your opinions. Thanks.

$1500 is maybe what he could sell it for but $1200 is closer to it's value in actually finding someone who would buy it. And let's assume it is in original non converted from it's AWB days i.e, still has the thumbhole stock. Those guns cost $300 back in the day.

Yeah, I quit buying them after they hit 300 or so. I should have kept a few. Oh well.

If he wants to sell it, $1,200 and will go quick. $1,500 and he'll probably wait longer for a buyer.

I bought mine back then for $150! Couldn't pass it up being that inexpensive. Should've bought about 10 or more.

A spike-bayonet Norinco with the original military style wood and pistol grip, in mint condition, would likely sell quickly around here in the $1200-1400 range, and $1500 is possible with the right buyer.

A thumbhole gun, without bayonet lug, would likely bring $200- 300 less.

I bought my thumbhole special for around $299 in '94 or '95. Cut me some slack, I was only 18 or 19. No offense, but mine was a complete piece of junk. While cycling, either manually or operationally, one side of the bolt body had the fun tendency of departing its corresponding rail. Sold down river when I began the upgrade process to Zastava AKs.

Make sure the bore is still GTG, a lot of the ComBloc ammo sold years ago... while marked non corrosive, really was corrosive.
And could mess up a barrel badly.

Other wise Mak 90's are great.

You have a few choices it could be. Milled, stamped straight cut, stamped angle cut, transitional pre ban... Do you know which one?

My friend's rifle sold, was stamped with an unknown receiver cut and believed to be post ban. With shipping, insurance, adult sig. the buyer had $1129 in it plus an unknown FFL fee.
