Makarov for CCW questions

David4516,

I recently got my first Makarov and I am very happy with it. I normally carry a Glock23, but was looking for a cheap alternative for those hot summer days when I couldn't conceal my Glock. The MAK is very easy to conceal and there are plenty of good holsters out there. If you are going to use it for concealed carry spend the extra bucks and get a GOOD holster, you won't regret it.

The MAK is VERY accurate and I have shot 400+ rounds in it without any malfunctions at all. It is a natural "pointer" for me and I can shoot it very quickly.

I would stay with the 9x18. There are several ammo suppliers that have good cheap ammo as well as good hollowpoints.

For all of you BIG BORE CCW guys, which Im one of, lets look at it this way....even you WAY northern type folks :D

The 38 Spec is the lightest "BLESSED BY GOD AND JMB" caliber for those who carry a weapon for self defense. This has been proven and doesnt need to be stated further...the Mak with good JHP's...Barnaul, Corbon, etc.
Has more energy than the 38 Spec from a snub by a long shot..even +P.
It has a lighter, larger bullet traveling faster than the Spec offers and is small enough to hide and is uterlly reliable.

So if its all you had or even all you wanted to carry and were good with it....
Why not?

Shoot well

Summer? Be mindful of the finish then. The Mak is blued, not plastic & tenifer, and is subject to rusting (as I noticed myself a couple weeks ago. Cleaned up ok, but I was bummed out for a while).

Wild,
Yeah, you may be right, but like I said, I was poorer then.

I suppose that you think that a elderly person, living on a fixed income in a (now) bad neighborhood, that they have lived in forever, should ditch their Makarov or even Jennings for the latest wizz bang super pistol!!!

Not everyone has the luxury of being able to afford a Glock or a Sig!!! ;)

I've been there, done that!! :scrutiny:

as soon as my permit comes in my Mak is going around with me :)
unless you count my model 1895 nagant its my only handgun:D
i just bought a Falco IWB holster from Makarov.com....ill tell you guys how good it is

If I could only take one shot at ten yards to save my life I am quite confident I could make one heck of a shot placement with my Mak. BTW, a little white enamel on the front sight makes it a lot easier to aim. I put white enamel on the front and a couple of dabs of flourescent orange on the rear. The contrast is amazing. Those sights need as much help as they can get. If it was my first carry gun purchase and I had less than $200. to spend I would definitely get a Mak. Actually, I did spend less than $200. on my first carry gun - a used Charter Arms Undercover .38 snubbie. I've carried my Mak for about a week while my primary gun was getting plated. IMHO, it's basically ugly, but I wouldn't mind having half a dozen of them for backups in the cars, office, and at home.

Regards, Keys

i got the falco holster today
mmmm the smell of new leather
nice quality, i just had to put it on and test it, with shorts and just a t-shirt at about 5 o'clock
felt good.....i think im going to have to wear it around the house some to get used to it because my permit isnt here yet
but i should be here before the end of the year:D
