I know Pearce makes an aftermarket grip for the Makarov but it doesn't seem like anyone else does. I don't like the Pearce grip. It is way too fat and a little too soft. I am considering using an east german grip as a basis with a little different texture and finding someone to produce it in a hard rubber similar to the rubber used in the Pachmyar grips. I would like to have it made but it wouldn't be economical for me or the producer unless there was interest enough for me to sell a hundred or so of them. Does this sound like a good idea or am I the only one who wishes he had a source for some grips like this?

PS: I know about Hakan. I don't really care for wood grips on my Mak, besides I think I would be able to beat how expensive those grips are.

There used to be an aftermarket grip called the "Makawrap". I've got some & they're great. Alas, production stopped a few years ago.

The major sources of Makarov grips are red stars, EGs and Simson Suhl. There are other importer-provided thumbrest grips also.

There used to be inexpensive wooden grip available, but no longer. Top Gun Supply makes some nice grips from a red star base with wood laminates:

I think they are too wide and the rubber is a little on the soft side. I would like to have a set that is a bit slimmer and harder. I currently have east german grips on my Mak whick fit my hand nicely but they don't absorb much recoil.

If you want a little recoil absorbtion, try a slip over grip like an Agrip or a Hogue Handall.
Also, get a 19# recoil spring and stop using ammo heavier than 95 gr.

Yikes Teakwood those grips are 70 bucks. OuCH> I'm talking about a nice replacement similar to the size and shape of the EG grip but out of hard rubber for recoil absorbtion and for about 20 bucks. Thats what I think would be great. A lot of us carry our MAKS for CCW and it doen't make sense to put such bulky grips on such a slim gun.

Sorry, Jon, no such critter exists.

I use EG grips or a de-horned red star myself.

Thats why this thread was to inquire about the possiblity of any interest if I was to produce them. I've looked for existing grips and I don't think they are out there. I'm talking about producing and selling the ones I think would be good for this weapon.

I'm thinking of making a reproduction of the East German grip that would look like an original grip but would be made out of hard rubber instead of plastic to give a little more recoil absorbtion and control when shooting.

Go for it, Jon.
However, if I were you, I would first talk to George or Karl at Makaov.com. They have been in business for about 10 years and could provide you clearer economic assessments and advice.
