My friend has a Makarov that his Dad bought awhile ago and I'm possibly going to buy it off of him but would like to know alittle more about it first.

The markings are as follows:

Slide- On the left side it has 9mmx18m and AW5205 and what looks like a circle with a diamond around it (?).

Frame- On the left side it has what looks like a diamond shape, K100 with a square around it, LSA with an arrow through it, then the number 61.
On the right side of the frame is marked 9mm MAK CAI ST ALB VT and beneath that MFG. Germany.

The grips look reddish brown with a thumbrest on the left side and a star on each side in the middle.

Any ideas what I have here? I'm guessing its an East German model from 1961 but would like to know more from the experts.

btw.....I also posted this at the Makarov.com forum but wanted to see what I could hear from you guys too.

If you buy it (and you should), may I make a suggestion...

1. Go to makarov.com and buy a set of 'real' E. German grips.

2. Remove the grips with that thumb rest, examine them carefully, then throw them as far as you can.

3. Put on the real E. German grips and enjoy your new piece.

Also, Dan at Dan's Ammo has good ammo for sale at good prices. I don't have their url handy but a lookup on Google will find it.

Most EG Maks came with a shoulder holster, might ask about it. If you can figure out how to strap it on and find it to be a comfortable practical device then you are a truly unique individual.
Check for rust when you take the grip off, that it one place it tends to form as most don't check there regularly.

Pearce grips work best (look best) for me, but make the gun "fat."

A good set of slim contour wood stocks w/ NO FINGERGROOVES would be ideal.
