What would a gunsmith do to build up the front sight? Or would he dovetail the slide and install and a taller after market sight?

Howdy
You may be able to file off the top of the rear sight. If you are shooting hard ball maybe an ammo switch will help. Friend of mine says lead RN reloads shoot best in his. Good luck

I thought about doing that but the sights are just so small now I hate to take any off.

MP-44, if you brought it me I'd recommend a dovetail front and taller sight but if you'd prefer I could just build up the front. Talk it over with your local smith. If you don't have anyone near you, e-mail me if you like. I'd be happy to discuss the job with you. George

Before you go filing on anything, different size rear sights for Pistolet Makarova are available from HERE !!!!! :D

Also, some Makarovs are regulated for the Wolf (Tula Cartridge Works) 120gr bullet. The fodder available here is either 90 or 95 grain and will shoot high in a gun set for the higher weight bullet!! Dr. Bloss has all the info at his site!!! :D
