Ok
I am contemplating a Sig 232 in .380 or Cz 83 in 9 mak.

Opinions wanted on guns? Also ... ammo avail and prices?

What is the best mak prices? How about .380?

I am a lefty so Maks, Bersa and PPKs wont fly with me.

Thanks

Well you are talking about the kings of the blow back guns.

The Sig is really the same size as the CZ, for those who havent held both side by side.....its true. Dont worry, I know the gunrag pics can be deceiving too! :D The Sig may have about 10% more refinement than the little CZ but the CZ is more heavily built across the board. Has a better trigger, better capacity and is a better pointer for me.

The cost of the guns is a big difference also. The Sigs are everywhere..the Mak CZ83 will be like a needle in the haystack. Before you bid on one on Gunbroker.......call them and MAKE SURE they have the guns. Most dont.

Ammo cost is much better around here for the Mak.......even online you can get Barnaul JHP's, my carry round of choice for the 9x18, for cheap.

.380 ammo is more common but is two times what 9mm costs around here.

Sincerely, you can do alot worse than either gun...but my heart, head and hands would get the CZ...................

Shoot well..........

PCRCCW - I always enjoy your posted comments and agree with 99% of this one but I am looking right now at my CZ83 next to my Sig P232 and the CZ83 is clearly larger (mostly in the butt) and, importantly, heavier than the stainless Sig. The differences are not huge but one would have to judge whether they are enough to make a difference. Other than that, I agree they are the kings and the CZ is a wonderful, wonderful pistol. I don't know which I like better, frankly. My CZ is .380 but I wouldn't mind getting one in 9x18. I used to have a Bulgie Makarov but frankly did not expect the abundance of good and cheap 9x18 ammo to last. Oops. I think most folks would be happy with either choice, 232 or CZ83. They are both that good.

For those that don't like steel cases, Georgia Arms loads 9x18 with a Gold Dot bullet and brass cases. Good stuff.

FWIW, I'd go with the CZ, all steel and fits my hand perfectly. YMMV.

Instead of buying the CZ-83 in 9mm Mak, which by their own admission is a special order gun (read: you can't get one), I would just buy the genuine article!!! I think SOG and Century Arms still has a few Bulgies left for sale!! If not, my FFL has two in his case as we speak!! They are going for $200.

IMHO, the Sig 232, while nice, is a bit to fancy for the caliber. You can get better performance from Pistolet Makarova for far less than half the price of the Sig!!

Gary,
You are correct..the length of the grip is longer and thicker on the CZ by a tad", but overall...the rest of the gun is quite similar in the rest of the dimensions. I was surprised by comparing the two I thought the Sig would be alot smaller.....

When carrying the guns they both hide quite easily......with the Sig having the slight advantage that you pointed out...................

Ill go back to my corner now...........:D

Against a Makarov the CZ83 is quite cumbersome in comparison.

Denfoote........The CZConnection has the Mak chambered CZs in stock, or at least the last time I talked to Phil. They arent a special order as they arent being imported anymore at all. The trick is finding one thats already here..............

Shoot well..

I would think that by the time you got a set of sights on the Mak up to the sights that comes on a CZ the Mak would suck up just as much or more bucks.

Good point, Buttrap. And you didn't even mention a comparison between triggers.

Get the genuine Mak! Right now you can pick up brand new/unissued for $150.00. Being a lefty won't matter once you decock. The Mak ammo is a lot cheaper than 380 and is a bit more powerful. AIM has the new Maks, Dan's Sporting Goods at www.dansammo.com has some real beauties. Sog has some nice used/issued ones for only $129.00. Get one of the new ones from AIM or Dan's, have Makarov.com install Novak sights and for less than $300.00 you have a gun that in my opinion is superior to either the Sig or the CZ.
