Makes a person wonder

I for one can't believe that every THR member is not an NRA member either.

I start with the premise that there are forces out in Society that are actively engaged to prohibit A-Z of firearm ownership; be it handguns, or rifles bigger than x-caliber, ect.

The only place that I regularly shoot is at my local Black Creek range. I shoot my wicked powerful and feared .22.

However, that said, the NRA is the primary insurance carrier of the grandfatherly gentleman who owns the range. He wouldn't really carry any insurance, but he stated in this litigious world that we live in, he of course, can't.

The NRA provides a presence by setting up ranges, high school competitions, safety training, as well as a host of other contributions.

They might have started out as a hunting org., I don't really know. But what I do know is that for me to do the limited things that I do, with what I have, is due in no small part to the NRA.

I have also joined the GOA, because as someone here on THR pointed out, sometimes you need someone else to help you out with the "dirty" work. That is how I have balanced out the contributions to both the NRA and the GOA groups. One is massive and is involved with tons of things and has to naturally seek compromise, whilst the other is smaller and more focused and can remain on point and be more tenacious.

thanks and have a great day,

Just exactly what is the NRA doing right now to change the hoops one must jump through to own any title II firearm?

I doubt the NRA's attitude towards title II firearms has changed since 1934 or 1986.
Keith, I am not aware of any current fight specifically involving Title II firearms other than they are attempting to have the rules governing the BATF re-written and clarified. I do not know if that will or could involve changing the way Title II firearms are handled.

My posts here are not to create enemies, but simply to state that without these national Second Amendment organizations, ALL FIREARMS would be very high on the endangered species list.

If you wish to withhold your support because you personally feel slighted, that is your right and I support your steadfastness. I will also go one step further and say that I hope eventually ALL restrictions on ALL firearms are lifted. If I can only live that long I will celebrate with you and I will buy the beer.

Agreed -- I am not posting here to create enemies; I've got about 50 million of 'em already...

My lack of financial support for the NRA is not out of "personal slight". I believe at lot of the issues we face today are due to the NRA agreeing with certain aspects of the 1934 NFA. The insanity that led to the inclusion of short barreled rifles (I mean, really, just how does putting a butt stock on my .32 ACP semi Vz61 Skorpion make it more "unsporting" or deadly?) led, IMHO, to the whole concept of declaring what is and isn't a "sporting" firearm, which paved the way for attacks on "sniper" rifles, "assualt" rifles, "assassins" pistols, whatever. The compromising that led to the NFA of '34 haunts us today, and I don't think the NRA has done anything to indicate that "they" (G-d I hate making an "us" and "them" sort of comment) have learned from it.

Do I believe the NRA does some outstanding things for firearms owners? Sure.

Do I also believe they pick and choose their battles wisely so as 1) to not upset the general public too much and 2) have a few "easy wins" to gain more funding from firearms owners. Yes, unfortunately, I belive that too.

Again, my opinion, I could be wrong, but it seems the NRA has (in the l-o-n-g term) had to do some "back pedaling", and indeed is trying to fix perhaps some things that their "let's compromise because we are after all sportsman" viewpoint helped to create. I applaud that. What I can't support is the fact the the "let's compromise" attitude just doesn't seemed to have changed.

If you can afford to join and support only one pro-firearms organization, that one should be the National Rifle Association. It’s really that simple, so stop making excuses not to.

Frankly I don't want to hear anyone's BS excuse for not joining and supporting the NRA and other pro gun rights organizations.

If it wasn't for hundreds of thousands of people like me fighting for our gun rights for the last 50 years you excuse makers would be lucky to be able to own a BB gun now.

Making excuses and whining doesn't cut it.

At times I have been down on the NRA as much as anyone but the fact is if it wasn't for the NRA private ownership of guns in the US would be on a par with the UK, if we were lucky.

There are enough "gun people" in the US to "own" any election we wanted. If just half these people had a backbone we wouldn't have states that we call "The People's Republic of .............".

So whine and make all the excuses you want, it's your children and grandchildren that will cuss you.

Can anyone tell me who the NRA endosed in the NYC Mayoral race? Or California's Governor's race? If I am not mistaken they actually snubbed a pro gun Republican and endorsed Arnold 'ban the .50" Schwarzenegger.

Buy them up

Do manufacters like Rem, S&W, Win, Colt, ect... support the NRA and other
groups? If so, every body who is not a member of NRA and reads this post
purchase a firearm from your favorite maker. Two birds with one stone.

PS tell a friend to

Here's another way to look at it; would the NRA have to compromise at all if every gun owner was a member? If not, then the main reason they have to compromise is because every gun owner isn't a member.

Why not have everyone join the NRA, take care of all the issues the NRA is willing to tackle (national CCW, gun ownership in the occupied territories etc...) then, the no-compromisers can push for the all or nothing platform from a much stronger position.
