I for one can't believe that every THR member is not an NRA member either.
I start with the premise that there are forces out in Society that are actively engaged to prohibit A-Z of firearm ownership; be it handguns, or rifles bigger than x-caliber, ect.
The only place that I regularly shoot is at my local Black Creek range. I shoot my wicked powerful and feared .22.
However, that said, the NRA is the primary insurance carrier of the grandfatherly gentleman who owns the range. He wouldn't really carry any insurance, but he stated in this litigious world that we live in, he of course, can't.
The NRA provides a presence by setting up ranges, high school competitions, safety training, as well as a host of other contributions.
They might have started out as a hunting org., I don't really know. But what I do know is that for me to do the limited things that I do, with what I have, is due in no small part to the NRA.
I have also joined the GOA, because as someone here on THR pointed out, sometimes you need someone else to help you out with the "dirty" work. That is how I have balanced out the contributions to both the NRA and the GOA groups. One is massive and is involved with tons of things and has to naturally seek compromise, whilst the other is smaller and more focused and can remain on point and be more tenacious.
thanks and have a great day,
cavman
