This may sound like I'm trying to recreate the wheel, and I know there are tons of commercially made bore guides on the market, but I'm cheap and I have some rifles that need a custom-made guide. Further, polyoxymethylene plastic rod (a/k/a Delrin) can be had fairly cheap, is easily machinable, and I need a project to do during my pandemic-induced 'house arrest'.

So, if I custom make a bore guide for each of my rifles, is there an optimum diameter for the hole in the bore guide relative to the caliber of the rifle? The hole needs to be large enough for a jag with patch or a bore brush to pass through without stripping off off the bore cleaner, but small enough to effectively keep the cleaning rod centered with the rifle bore. I'm thinking (more or less) 1/4" for 22 caliber, 5/16" for 24 caliber, and 3/8" for 30 caliber. 30 caliber is the largest bore rifle I have. What say y'all?

Sounds about right, I’ve made several myself as well as custom rear guides for one of my commercial Stony Point guides to fit in my Sakos. Their bolt is smaller than normal. Made a couple for several of my Contender barrels too.
