If I am understanding 922r correctly, I would have to replace 4 parts with US made parts in order to install the Imported collapsing stock. The current import count on a Benelli M4 is 13 parts (since the stock setup is legal for import, the 13 is ok, but in order to change parts, I have to abide by the 10 count), you need no more than 10 to be 922r compliant, so since the collapsing stock is 2 parts (PG and Stock), I would need to replace 4 parts to install that stock and be compliant correct?

So I am going to change the following:

U.S. Made Mag Tube
U.S. Made Follower
U.S. Made Hammer
U.S. Made Forearm

So if I change these 4 parts, I should be OK for 922r Compliance correct?

Thanks for any input!

One last question, if I were to replace the Mag Tube with a 7 round extended tube (full tube, not an extension), I need to find another U.S. built part to replace even if the mag tube is US built correct? (because its deemed an "evil" part)

Why is that?

I've only read people talking about 922 compliance in regards to high capacity (30 round) magazines. Never collapsible stocks. What 922 regulation do you violate if you install the imported stock?

922(r) is only applicable to "non-sporting firearms"

(a) No person shall assemble a semiautomatic rifle or any shotgun using more than 10 of the imported parts listed in paragraph (c) of this section if the assembled firearm is prohibited from importation under section 925(d)(3) as not being particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes.

Once you modify the m4 with an evil part it becomes non sporting therefore must follow 922r technically. To me it's not worth the risk of being potentially caught in violation eventhough everyone says it's "never" enforced. I like my toys to be legal.

Good thinking.

As the M4 comes to the US from Italy, it has an import parts count of 13 out of the 20 major parts per 922r. In its stock form it is legal because its deemed a "Sporting gun" but once you choose to modify the gun and change out parts with other parts identical to a gun that is prohibited from import. Then you have to adhere by the 10max import parts count. So to install the collapsible stock, which is technically 2 parts, because the Pistol grip is one, and the stock is the other. You need to reduce your parts count by 4 parts so you will end up at 10 after installing the collapsible stock.

Now if I understand the law correct, I can use a full length mag tube if its made in the USA as a 922r compliant part.

So I will practically have an M4 Super 90...
