You might have to put more of the paper caps in ? I noticed that the substitute powders are stuborn unlike real powers. Try 3 paper caps ?

Raa i was shooting fff black powder but it was only a 6gr ff load that i use for wax bullets. They might work for normal powder loads and lead balls.

Smokin Joe i did try a little fff dust under the toy caps they worked like store bought caps. :)

The Tap o Cap comes with 1/8 wood dowel to put the toy caps in the hulls. What are you guys using?

I was at walmart today and i found some Legends brand toy caps they had them in roll and ring types. The ring type were plenty strong to work on black powder guns but they are to small to fit any nipples i have. If you had extra nipples you could turn down on a drill they would work fine. They cost 3.00 for 216. The paper caps were way stronger than my super bang caps. Two caps in a soda can cap would work real well. they are 3.00 for 2400.

raa-7, I experimented some more with your idea. I made another die with a 0.185" hole (used a #13 wire gauge bit) - using the 0.157" push rod, the resulting caps fit nearly perfect on my Uberti revolver nipples, nice and snug.

I tried it with 0.005" copper, but the stuff was more difficult to punch into discs, and the caps tore/split in the 0.185" die. I think I'll have to stick with the soft "pie pan" aluminum.

That sounds like a good deal on the paper roll caps ,, 2400 for 3 bucks ! I'll see if our w-mart has them. Also for some reason the damn caps (paper roll caps and the red plastic ring type) just went up in price around here . They probably notice me buying them up all the time :p

Yeah the pie pan aluminum is a lot easier to work with,it's just like the soft copper sheet I've been using. Also I should have mentioned that the softer material will split apart when you fire one off, and that's good because some of the aluminum ones fly apart like shrapnel. I've only had that happen when I put more than 2 caps in one . Also you can buy those sheet pans or turkey pans in the dollar stores for a buck or so and get tons of caps out of one.:D

I wonder if one might make a kit that would be a shell holder with a plunger and a die to screw into a Lee Hand press and turn these out. May be some sort of stop plate provide the flat bottom forming before the arms completely close and thena la lever or some sort to remove the stop plate and allow the plunger t continue forward to pus hout the completed cap shell.

Just thinking out loud.
