I have a CZ-83 in 9mm Makarov. A wonderful weapon that I truly enjoy taking to the range. Recently I've noticed that the slide stop seems a little bit loose. When I was at the range on Saturday, the slide would lock back prematurely on the 4th or 5th round of a ten round magazine. Since I consider this pistol a 'shooter' and not a SD peice or carry weapon, this malfunction didn't ruin my weekend.

I did take the time to make ABSOLUTELY SURE that I wasn't causing this malfunction by letting my thumb ride up near the slide stop while shooting.
This slide continued to lock back prematurely during normal firing (not rapid fire) and I started getting annoyed. Again, I made sure that I wasn't causing the problem. This is certainly not an indictment of CZ pistols, as I have many more of them than I need. It is true. CZ pistols are addictive. Any suggestions?

I would strongly recommend calling CZUSA in Kansas City. They perform in-house repairs. Just don't expect it back very quickly.

I sent mine in for a feed ramp polish as the gun wouldn't feed the Silver Bear HP ammo. They did a beautiful job. My CZ-83 Mak now feeds Silver Bear, home loaded semi wadcutters, and anything else I've tried.

Sounds like a weak slide-stop spring (which is supposed to hold the slide stop steady, and not let it bounce up during recoil.)

Check with Mike Eagleshield at CZ-USA for guidance. (Gunsmith and technical specialist.) CZ-83s are typically bullet-proof, so its probably a spring that has reached it functional life's end.

(Could also be -- but less likely -- out-of-spec ammo nudging the slide stop as it moves up the tube. Or very weak mag springs, allowing the ammo to jiggle around a bit at they move up, with the same effect as out-of-spec ammo.)

Once I say a slide stop spring actually come out on a CZ83..the pistol was not being shot..just being looked at by a guy in a store and he pulled the slide stop out...he didnt know what hed done.
The spring had come out.
For those who know the mechanics of this..Its almost technically impossible for it to do this...but this gun did it. We got the spring back in it but instead of explaining how to do it to you..
Id send it back to Mike..hell do you a better job and put a new spring in it for you also.

And yes CZ still makes the Mak chambered 83 but the last batch was imported approx. 2 years ago and wont be doing anymore. I got one of them and IM KEEPING IT :D If you have one or find one...jump on it.

Unless you are prepared to buy a case of them....you wont be finding them @ CZUSA anymore.

Let us know what happens.. Shoot well.
