They have released the Post that the guy had maps for, its FT. Drum home of the 10Th Mtn. Division. 5 hr drive from his location. Here is a link.

They again downply any terrorist connection, I guess time will tell if the Gov. wants us to know.
All the stories I have read are full of all the typical adjectives to decribe his 2 weapons, again I have no problem with s%*$ bags like this getting busted but would hate to have the same treatment in the press for what I might have in my truck on any given day.

At one time I had a 37mm launcher. It fit under my AR.Thing was awsome and real fun to shoot. Problem is/was that the ammo was very expensive and I needed the cash. I sold it to a buddy who still has it. This has been maybe 8 years ago.

I didn't realize I also have a "massive" no. of firearms. There are a lot of old farmers and hunters in this area who would fit this description....It was the "massive cache" that caught my eye enough to check out the post.

Even though this guy in all likely hood is a bad guy, look at how the media reacts to a few rifles. Imagine how they would look at most of us and our collections. Wow they would probably say I had enough to arm a small militia.

A month later, in August 1997, Woodson was discharged."

Seems it's more likely than not he is prohibited from owning any firearms anywhere in the U.S.

If he was discharged dishonorably (likely, given the circumstances), he is indeed prohibited.

The news link says the type usually mounted in a vehicle.
ABC "News" couldn't tell .50 BMG from a .50 cal muzzleloader. All they know is that their Brady Campaign handbook tells them that is if somebody possesses some type of firearm in .50 caliber, they are supposed to start talking about shooting down planes.

That's all well and good, if they just said 50cal. and left out the mounted on vehicle part. Sensationalization is what the media is all about. Like someone said try Google and they might get it right at least half the time. The cops are also culpable since I'm sure they enjoy throwing the big 50 around too. We will probably never know for sure what one it was.

I'm not buying into the whole terrorism thing. While he certainly was prohibited from owning firearms, along with the defacing of a serial number, I need more facts to see if his intent was dangerous, or simply stupid (I.E. selling his 'massive' collection to someone at the base in question). Such a shady deal isn't out of the question, and while illegal, doesn't amount to terrorism.

NYS and a military post would be the last place that I would want to do a shady deal but the guy was no doubt on the stupid side. I think he does fit to some extent the profile of those who have in the past been radicalized by the Muslim anti Americans.
I also doubt that we will hear much more about that since in general the gov seems to want to downplay many of the incidents that might indicate terrorists in the country.

I'm not claiming he's a brainchild by any stretch of the imagination. And I certainly could be wrong and he was another underwear bomber in the making. But I just don't see it. Then again, I don't have access to all the information.

"ORLANDO, IS THAT YOU!" - Ghost the movie.

Anway, this dude knew he was wrong, seems plain stupid, and I'm glad he's off the street. One less dill hole to make it worse for responsible firearm owners.

Most sources left out he was wearing Middle eastern head gear too. We got to be politicaly correct you know.

Anyone too can go to Google Maps and get a map of any military base...try it....LOL

I do hope someone has mentioned that 37mm launchers are commonly CALLED grenade launchers but are unable to launch 40mm grenades.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

LOOOOL SHOOTING DOWN PLANES? LOL THIS is to funny! The brady campaign handbook LOOOOOOL :neener::neener::D lol

EEEEEGADS!!! He had HUNDREDS of rounds of ammunition!?!?!?!?!? In New Jersey that must be an astronomical number!!!!!

I'm glad they haven't seen the inside of *my* ammo safe or the ammo safes of my friends and fellow instructors!! They would go apoplectic!!!!

You have a ammo safe? I always figured the stuff was too heavy and bulky for anyone to bother trying to steal and just hide the stash in a closet. If anyone broke in while I'm gone I'd be more worried about my electronics.

I wonder if the plastic walmart flaregun and single shot .410 snake charmer that we load onto my old man's pontoon constitute a floating weapons cache.

"Journalists theorize that Rednecks planned to re-enact the taking of Omaha beach at local marina"

This guy walked into a 7-11 with a rifle under his coat? I'd have called the cops too. The cops arrest the guy, discover his residence contains rifles with altered serial numbers... hmmm. And a map. Hmmm. And a keffiya (or whatever those are called I wear one often in winter as a scarf and they are great for motorcycling) and yeah I got one from an Isreali gal and one from my brother in Abu-Dhabi after Gulf War 1.

The thing is the guy was acting hinky and lo and behold, he IS hinky! Good job!

The media always exaggerates--but those altered numbers suggest stolen guns. And altering is a federal rap. Bet he MIGHT be talking to the FBI? And they MIGHT be looking for any and all his known associates?

Before we go off the deep end defending 'gun rights' I'd point out it sounds like the guy broke a number fo gun laws, AND may have been up to no good.

While this guy is probably not a good guy, the police don't help themselves much when faced with an educated reader.

The maps could have been Rand McNally covering the entire state or a common base tourist map to be accurate to their description.

The serial numbers could have had minor scratches and still fit their description.

With their hyperbole on the things we are sure about:
a) grenade launcher vs. flare gun.
b) 50 caliber insinuation.
c) Night vision possession is somehow bad.
d) Having "hundreds" of rounds as excessive.
e) "Arsenal" used as a negative adjective meaning anything over 1.
f) etc.

Why don't we expect them to lie to further enhance their position on the other things????

Is it all about creating a sense of fear and/or emergency to justify their existence, puffing out their chests, ego? Or are they excuses to solidify their control?

It's the little lies that go unchallenged that will be our downfall. They could have not used these untruths and still got their story across, but what fun would that be..............

The report I watched on ABC focused on the "grenade launcher" with a reporter calling up some Class III FFL he found online to show how easy it was. Yes, the seller had them, most of the people who wanted to buy them could get them. To that reporter that meant they were as easy to get as popcorn. Either the reporter didn't mention, or the reporter didn't know about the process you have to go through to get that grenade launcher and every single grenade you buy.
