Sgt. William Ware of the Pontiac Police Department said the homeowner, who was alone in the home at the time, heard a loud noise coming from the back. Investigating the situation, he learned that the suspects had entered after kicking in the back door.

This is from the online edition, and i'll post the full edition when its online tomorrow. That being said, from what details i've gotten there was a group of six men who were doing a spree of home invasions in Pontiac Michigan, which depending on where you go can be a pretty bad area. In fact the majority of it seems rather run down, with only a few areas that seem relatively safe. According to the radio the six men who were doing the home invasions would brandish firearms and either sexually assault or threaten sexual assault (it wasn't very clear on this particular matter) and then rob the homeowners. Apparently three men came to this mans home and he shot one of them, causing the other two to take him to the hospital where all three were arrested. Thankfully an armed citizen has been able to protect himself, because i can only imagine what would have happened if he were to wait on the police to come to the rescue after dialing 911.

Heres today's article, which is more full in its explanation

PONTIAC - A 33-year-old Cloverlawn Street resident apparently shot one of three men who broke into his home at about 4 a.m. Monday. Sgt. William Ware of the Pontiac Police Department said the homeowner, who was home alone at the time, heard a loud noise coming from the back.

Investigating the situation, he found the men had entered his home after kicking in the back door. All three were wearing hooded sweat shirts.

According to police, the man fired two shots toward the young men.

All three fled, leaving the resident unsure whether the shots had hit any of them. The homeowner has a concealed weapons permit, police said.

Roughly 15 minutes after the incident, a local hospital contacted the Pontiac Police Department to report that a 21-year-old man had been struck in the upper torso by a bullet.

Two males, 20 and 17 years old, had taken him there and were present when police responded. Both were held for questioning Monday.

The gunshot victim, who was originally listed in serious condition, was upgraded to critical condition late Monday morning.

Neither of the two other men nor the homeowner was harmed in the incident. Police inspecting the homeowner's house, on the 1200 block of Cloverlawn, found a weapon discarded in the snow-covered lawn behind the home. An investigation into the home invasion and shooting continues. Ware said that because the homeowner had reasonable cause to fear for his safety, the shooting will likely be ruled as justified.

Identification of the three suspects Monday may provide police with insight into one or more of eight home invasions and robberies that have occurred in the city this month alone.

Police believe several groups of suspects are responsible.

Cloverlawn is on the north side of the city, where six of the eight incidents had taken place.

Ware said descriptions of suspects in some of those incidents match two of the three suspects identifi ed Monday. "We're really hopeful that we'll be able to clear up a couple of other cases," he said.

Police believe that in the incidents before Monday, suspects were looking for money or drugs.

Several turned violent, however. A 30-year-old man was beaten in the face in one situation, while a 26-year-old man was beaten in the head and shot in the leg in another and a woman was sexually assaulted in a third.
