Man Shoots Wife, Mistaking Her For A Monkey

I call BS.
At the very least, Reuters has reported a total screwup of details.

1. Since when were Malaysians allowed to own shotguns? Sure, maybe this old guy hid a long gun from the early 70's, or hehe, from before Malaysia effectively seceded from what would become Indonesia in 1957. But, the story makes it sound like potting at monkeys was a regular thing. That would have called attention to the gun--and where'd he get ammo for all that? Just illegally owning a .22LR cartridge can get you the death penalty.

2. A 68-year old woman going up on a low branch to collect fruit is not that unbelievable. Out in the sticks, Malays/Austronesians can be a pretty tough sort. However, a mangosteen tree might be a little tough to climb.

3. A mango tree, maybe --some of those suckers can have low branches, and fruit low enough to reach from the ground. A mangosteen tree is much taller in aspect: for it to support the weight of even a small person, it would have been pretty hefty and high.

3. A monkey? Those are pretty small --as in '2 year old child' small, at most. Granted, the old man may have heard a mere rustling in the leaves and then took a shot. But come on...

:scrutiny:

cb,
A good gun for monkeys (think Rhesus) is .22LR if you sneak up on them, otherwise a shotgun and birdshot migh be better. Best of all would be a baited trap.
