There were holes in my target, but I have no idea how they got there

Ahhhh! The legendary .30 caliber pencil makes it's appearance yet one more time.;) :D They usually didn't come out of hiding in our outfit until the shooter didn't qualify on the third attempt. :)

You'll do best shooting at full size targets at various ranges out to 300m.

Focus on prone and (if possible) foxhole supported (or a high bench w/ sandbags).

Unless things are different, BT standards for Army BRM are not hard. The specialized stuff they will teach you later--that's a whole different ball game not to worry about yet.

Learn as much about everything else ahead of time. Get the BT handbook (don't know what it's called now--was called the 'gray book' in my time--a local guard unit or recruiter can hook you up). Get is shape if you need to help prevent training injuries. Buy good running shoes.

And really, really, REALLY think about what you're contemplating.
Also, consider, the USAF is supposed to have better food.:)
Good luck!

definitely go to www.rwva.org

And read about "Rifleman".
All patriotic hyperbole aside (though valuable stuff to a rightminded person), the edification around "inches minutes clicks", Natural Point of Aim, Shooting By the Numbers/Steps is really exactly what you should be learning.

Thanks guys.

I have already headed over to RWVA's site, actually, I have been using Fred's AQT targets for awhile. Problem being that they are for 25 yards, and shortest distance at my range is 50 yards.

I think I will continue to practice prone at 50 yards, then start to stretch it out to 200 and 300 as well here soon. I have several months; we aren't looking at me joining until November 1st or later.

So right now I want to work on fundementals, and make sure I am not getting new bad habits.

I am finding prone a hard position to shoot from, especially from the hard concrete, but I don't want to use a pad, because I know I need to toughen up my elbows.

Any tips on that?

Thanks again.

I.G.B.
