So I broke the rear section of my marlin 1894 in two and I located and ordered two, one to use and a spare, as it seems this part brakes. Today I stumbled on a single piece firing pin in what appears stainless, and then a few more clicks showed titanium. I'm normally a guy to use oem parts, but I can't help but wonder if the single piece is better.

The two piece firing pin (3 if you include the leaf spring) prevents the weapon from firing unless the lever is fully closed. You can see it work as you cycle the action. The rear firing pin comes out slightly more and down when the lever is locked in the closed position. One piece FP in Marlins are favored by guys who shoot a lot of cowboy action shooting because it makes the operation smoother, supposedly.

Which one is better is subjective. Just know you would be disabling a safety feature by using a one piece firing pin.

Learn something new every day... thanks.

I'm not familiar with marlins, but I assume the 3 piece firing pin is designed as some sort of drop safety disconnect. A 1 piece may therefore be less safe, but probably more reliable.
Reliability was the idea, and being made of stainless I think it would be less likely to brake... I don't know why they break and maybe it's the weak link on purpose.

With the one piece firing pin if anyone takes the rifle apart and fails to put the locking bolt back in the rifle when it's fired the bolt will come flying out the back of the rifle in your face.
That 2 piece firing pin is a safety measure.
