Marlin 1895 45/70G..Ported barrels?

I've been looking for a Marlin 1895G (ported barrel)45/70. Did Marlin ever make the stainless with a ported barrel? Does anybody know? Can't seem to find one..only blued versions seem to have the ported model.

To the best of my knowledge the stainless did not come with ported barrels. I have a blued without ports and and the recoil is not that bad (my 13 yr old nephew has shot it) it will jump like crazy but the back thrust isn't bad at all.

Like the stainless a bit mor than the blue version, but like the ported syle.

Personally, I think I'd let Mother Nature dictate to me which was more important on this score. The .45-70 DOES carry a bit on backdraft, but not enough to be a hinderance with practice.

Soooo...if I were going to use in my old home state of Alaska (hunting mainly along the coast) I'd forego the porting option in order to get a stainless version. Same applies to any other wet, hostile (to blued metal) firearms.

If porting is important to you, and you don't have to deal with adverse (read "wet") conditions, then the ported blued version might be your best bet...although I do agree with other posters here that the ol' gubmint caliber isn't THAT hard to master with a bit of practice, especially in the Marlin lever action. For some reason, the Marlin just doesn't seem to boot ME as badly as say a Ruger No. 1. I find the .444 a puredee pleasure to shoot.

the first ones were...

The first model year the 1895s were ported, after that Marlin quit making the ported models. I don't think the gs ever came ported. The guy at my local gun shop couldn't get an explanation from his distributor, but figured noise was the reason. There just happened to be another guy there who sold his ported 1895 because of the noise...I have an 1895 LTD III and an 1895gs. They both have recoil pads the LTD a Pachmeyer Redline the gs the Decelerator and even with Buffalo Bores 430gr Mag loads recoil isn't bad just a really good push, actualy more comfortable than a 44mag with a factory plastic buttplate.
