Local shop has a used Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in stainless steel with the non-ported barrel in 45-70 Govt. They are asking $550. Whatcha guys think??? I've wanted one of these since 2003 and would kill for a 1895SBL. Is there anything I should look out for. I have never owned a lever action rifle, just AK's.

Thanks,

Hizzie

I paid $600. new. That might be right for your area. Go to www.marlinowners.com they have A stickey on buying used marlins. I love mine! puts A smile on my face every time I pull the trigger. It has become my favorite rifle

I got mine back in 2004 for a song and a dance. That price is not out of the ball park, Id run with it were it me.

I prefer the standard 22 inch barrel to the 18.5", but I like to shoot mine regularly.

I love IMR 4064 using 405gr cast or rem semi jacket sp and loads from the Lyman 49th for the most accurate and amazingly soft kicking load I have ever fired for 45-70.

Not to hijack the thread, but is it possible to swap the 4 round tube for a 6 round tube?

You can convert to the longer mag tube. You need to cut A new dovetail in the barrel for the mount. you can buy the tube from marlin.
