I have a couple of Marlin 1895's in 45-70. One microgroove is enough and would like to have one equipped with an octagon barrel with ballard style rifling. Who does this work?
I saw sarco had 45 caliber octo barrels for sale, then just a smith to thread cut to length headspace and crown. What would you do with your old barrels? I happen to just have an old receiver laying around.
It would be a little more then just thread, chamber, cut, and crown an octagon barrel.
The barrel has to tighten exactly with a barrel flat perfectly aligned on top.
Then, Mag tube dovetails, and sight dovetails also have to be cut, and cut perfectly.
I think your best and least expensive bet is to call Remington / Marlin and see if they still can and will do it.
