I have a Marlin 25 that isn't ejecting shells properly. I know generally it's the ejector that needs a new spring, but I was wondering if this might be the problem:

It's the head of the bolt - the shell gets caught in between those tongs. I would guess they are supposed to be symmetrical and one has been bent in a jam or something, but I know very little about guns. Just making sure before I go bending things. Also, if you look at it from the other side it looks less bent and more like it was made that way:

So is this the source of my problem, or how it's supposed to look, or just a different problem? I appreciate any help, other than the ejection issue this has been a great gun for getting into shooting and I'd like to fix it.

Do Not start bending anything on the bolt.
There is nothing wrong there.
Neither of the parts you pictured have much to do with ejection as long as they hold the empty case firmly to the bolt face.

The hook is the extractor and the other side is just a spring loaded guide that keeps the case rim in position until the bolt comes back far enough to hit the ejector.

Look at this schematic.

The part # 9 is the extractor ring.
Part #8 is the actual ejector.
It is attached to the bottom of the receiver by the #23 magazine mounting bracket screw.

I would check the screw and make sure it is tight.
Then check the ejector #8 for damage.

Thanks rc! Ejector issues are a common newbie question I know, but I had no idea what the breach/bolt is supposed to look like so I thought I'd ask.

Took it apart and did some tightening. About as an easy a fix as there can be, works fine now.
