While most of my firearms are blued steel & wood, the thought of a light lever in stainless steel has been in the back of my head for the past year or so. I'd still like a 44 mag but ran across this JM 45-70 for a great price. The previous owner bought it new and installed Xs ghost ring sights, a wild west happy trigger, bear proof extractor, & aluminum mag follower. Then he shot it 34 times and it's been in his safe ever since.

I had the stainless frogged 1907 sling, and 45 cal cuff sitting in my blem box and think they've found a permanent home on this rifle.

Good looking gun. Even nicer pics.

Thank you!

That's a beauty! "Alaska for Dummies" Ha! You're off to a good start with the 1895!

I've got a couple others, but this one is the most back country appropriate for sure :)

I have the same model. Nice rifle. It likes the heavy bullets, Very nice pictures. Thanks for posting them.

My CB and G handle anything I load in them, even some of the 550 gr if you load 'em one at a time. Hope to go run some rounds through it this weekend and see what she likes!

Care to share your load data for the 550's? I have some Saeco 540's that I'm having a tough time finding load data

Nice rifle!

My 1895 is among my favorites, it loves 405 gr Blackhills when I can find, but it also eats Hornady 300 gr Leverlution just fine. Converted mine to laminate furniture and pistol grip.

Would if I could, but the 550's are grandads secret sauce :)

nice rig. wild west guns also sells a sling that holds 4 rounds.i have an 1895 with the pistol grip, grey laminate stock and 16 inch bbl.
http://www.7xleather.com/buttstock_cartridge_holder here's info on buttstock ammo holder

Thanks! I roll my own cow, and like the way it sits. The problem I found with rounds on the sling is the loops stretch out more/more quickly.

Very nice. My 1895G likes 405gr lead and Reloder 7.

Haven't tried Reloder but I do like the 405's!

You did a GREAT job with your conversion! I love pistol grip rifles and straight stock, but the PG looks better to my eye. The laminate goes great with the stainless too.

The only thing wrong with my 1895 is it's operator!

Hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy my Yogi Tamer!

My wife has the same gun (mine is blue) I've installed XS sights and cut the stock off for her. These little howitzers can handle loads from mild to wild. But you'll learn to appreciate the weight the extra rounds in the butt cuff add with the stout loads. :D

Nice photography! I really dig the sling with SS furniture. Looks like someone added a saddle ring, too bad that makes the extra redundant safety go away.

Thanks! I added the ring, and do a delete on any I might take out. Too many older rifles that don't have them to keep a habit of checking. That first time you pull the trigger and get 'click' is a game changer LOL.
