I don't really want to go join the Marlin owners site if I don't have to, just another password username to remember...

Not having much luck with google, of course I'm not great at figuring out keywords to search with either.

I have a Marlin 30AW .30-30 that I'd like to put some different sights on. Maybe a peep sight? I don't want one of those very fragile looking super adjustable aperature sight things I have seen. Just something a little different than what is on it now.

The difference between the 30AW and the 336 is how the sights mount to the gun, so a 336 sight won't work without doing a barrel swap.

anyhow, anyone with a lead on some sights that would fit this thing, I'd appreciate it!

The rear sight won't matter because it will mount to the receiver. There are several that could work. I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the barrel? Most 336 versions use a ramp with a front sight blade that slides into a dovetail in the ramp. Others just have a front sight that sets in a dovetail cut directly in the barrel. Either way it is just a matter of picking a front sight tall enough to work with the rear. You will have to buy a taller sight if the dovetail is in the barrel.

Midway, Brownell's and seveal other places sell sights. I'd look there.

thanks, yeah it is a dovetail straight into the barrel. I'll drop them a line and see if they have some info as per what combo to use that will make it work. I had a rifle with a too tall front sight and had to just learn to shoot really high with it.

on my 1894c, a .5" tall front sight would only work with the skinner lo-pro and the williams 5d. regular skinner was too tall in the rear. I really like the williams 5d better than any other iron sight I have tried on marlins. It works on all the old guns, without having to monkey with the front sights, plenty rugged as far as I can tell, and has lots of adjustment to make any load work at any range. And it's cheap.

Scout scopes are pretty nice, but by far my favorite setup on a a 30/30 is a regular scope mount with a 2-7x scope on it.

about halfway down, here http://www.skinnersights.com/front_sights_5.html is a list of what sight heights work with what guns using the skinner rear sight.

I'll bet one of these would work;
Williams 5D-94/36 or Williams WGRS-336 (both @ Midwayusa.com)
