I just got a new production Marlin 336C in .35 Rem and I am thinking about putting an aperture sight on it.

Anyway, what can you tell me about the Williams WGRS sight? Does it mount on the holes for the scope mounts or in the rear sight dovetail? Is it a durable sight? Will i need a new front sight or is the height on the one I have good? Where is the best place to get one?

I would think this info may be in the 336 club... but that's a mighty big thread.

Mounts to the two rear receiver holes. Fairly low profile but not 'hit it with a rock' tough, not much is though. I've mounted one of those and a Williams 5D in the past. Both were fine and had good adjustment range with the stock front sight on my rifles. They come with a .093 diameter aperture which is good for general use, I found the .050 target aperture not really an improvement for range work. For hunting the .125 'Twilight' aperture was very good, quick and easy to align in a hurry. For really close and dense or dark and foggy situations you can remove the aperture completely and have a big functional 'ghost ring' for quick work.

I like 'em. You can find 'em at most of the online retailers, Midway and Brownell's for sure.

I mounted one on my 336, but it shot high with the original front sight, so I put a taller front sight on it. It still shot high, so I put an even taller front sight on it. It still shoots too high.

I'm at a loss for the current front sight height because I'm at work and it's at home and I've forgotten.

Your .35s may run different though.

I generally like the WRGS, although I'm careful with it because because it doesn't seem as tough as a military type sight would be.

good info. I guess I will just have to give it a go with some different front sights if I decide to move in this direction.

I imagine it can't be less durable then the folding semi-buckhorn rear sight. Then again I could be wrong.

Can anyone tell me what the current 336c in .35rem front sight height is? or how I would measure it?

they do sit high....

if you get one, buy it as a part of a package deal with the matching fire eye front sight.

I much prefer the fool proof....which they make two models for the 336 Marlin.

one mounts on to the side of the reciever, as the older Marlings came pre-drilled and tapped for side mount.

the other mounts to the scope base holes on the top of the receiver and sits just a little bit higher....but still much lower than the WGRS.

The foolproof has calibrated clicks on the adjusting screws for both windage and elevation, much like a scope.

Lyman makes a receiver sight just like the Foolproof, but the Lyman is made of steel, while the FP is aluminum.
