Hi,

I have a 336 RC that I've bargained down to $325 shipped from $400 shipped. It's a RC model that is d&t'd, seems to be in good condition. The bad is some stock scratches on the stock, grip cap, and a little discolouration near the pistol grip on the RH of the stock. The buyer also says there are small specks of pitting on the LH of the receiver near where the stock begins. In my area, older Marlins are at least $350 - $425 depending on condition. This one is fine, and I plan to use it for hunting so I don't want a show piece anyways. What do you guys think?

The scratches aren't that bothersome. I'm curious about the lighter colour at the grip. Is that due to use and the finish just wearing off due to hand oils and friction?

What are you buying it for? If you need a great deer/ hog rifle then get it for sure. My 336 has been a great brush gun here in Texas.

I just got one myself. I'm still learning about marlins and levers though. Good luck with the purchase.

joed, you chose the best external hammer lever gun ever made. Dead nuts reliable, and accurate.

Not a bad price..For that condition..not a bargain. I have three 336's but just sold one to a member of this forum. In my opinion the best .30-30, in it's price range, on the planet. Tough actions that can take loads stoked up warmer than the whimpy factory stuff. For the last 30 years I haven't been without one.

Buy it! The old Marlin levers are the best, the scratches are miner for a hunting rifle. I have two Marlin lever actions one is a 336 bought it new in 1972 It is one of my favorite rifles.

It's a fun weapon, a reliable fun workhorse that will be perfect for a shorter range deer gun. And even at that price, you're not really losing out as it still looks great overall. If you're not terribly concerned about the stock or discoloration, you can't go wrong for the money.
