Marlin 336W vs. 336C -- metal finish?

mostly just the furnature....
but having said that.... the Walnut on the C can be acceptional.

You can get the C in 35 Rem....

Barrel length is the same on these two? I thought the C was for carbine....
No, C stands for Walnut, whereas W stands for Hardwood.
SC is for Sporter Carbine or somesuch, with a short mag tube. Could have bought one a couple years ago in great shape for $200. I should have, but it was before I discovered Marlins.
WRT the walnut, my 39A from a few years ago has great walnut on it.
I have to guess that Remington has put the kibosh on that. Remington's walnut would make fine firewood, unless it's on a gun that costs extra. Does anyone have a current Marlin that isn't made with scrap walnut?
(I must confess, I have no idea why someone would pay a premium price for today's Remingtons like the Model 7 CDL. It's a fine-handling little rifle, but the fit, finish, and lack of features, like no hunting safety, are not worth 800 bucks.)
Anyway, my thought about the 336W was to get one, have it engraved, and put a nice stock on it. But it's probably worth looking at a 336C if the stock is nice as-is, like my 39A.
