Does anybody know if this could be an original setup for a Marlin 39. Did any come with a straight mountie type lever and a pistol grip stock? the pictures I have have are to large to post. can email to someone if they would like to take a look.

I'm still drinking my first cup of coffee, but I don't recall seeing a combination like that during the past 40 or 50 years. I've had an interest in them since before I got my Mountie in 1963.

My money is on that buttstock being "aftermarket" in some way. and my biggest leaning is toward "made in grandpa willie's woodshop".

Sure is cool though.

Xtratoy;

If I were you, I'd also post that over on the Marlin board at www.rimfirecentral.com. If that batch-a yahoos over there can't identify it, it almost certainly is outta grampa's shop.

Looks like gramps did a nice job, didn't he?

Who you calling a yahoo? :)

So far the other yahoos over there are asking for more info on the rifle. Nobody will stand up and say nope, not factory.

Here're the usual styles seen (from thailandoutdoor.com thanks to google)

Notice the gentle curve to the pistol grip. No abrupt angles.

I'll say it...

That's not an original Marlin stock.

It's nicely done, and I bet it works just fine.

It looks like that was originally a straight wristed rifle, and somebody made a pistol grip shaped stock to fit on there.

While it's not an original stock, it's still a model 39 and qualified to shoot in the postal match.

Come on out and have some fun with us!
