i have a couple of Marlin microgrooves. the only thing really different (336 30-30) is that even with a bore of .308", i have to run .310 or .311 lead bullets in it if i want it to shoot accurately at any real velocity. up to 1000 fps, it soesn't really care much, but over that, it gets ugly fast. shooting jacketed bullets, it is fine. i would not let microgroove barrels scare you off. they just have a different set of peculiarities, than a conventional barrel does. they have been around enough that people have them figured out. you just have to ask around a little if you are experiencing something strange. really, if they did not work, Marlin would have dropped them a long time ago.
