:fire: :banghead: :fire:

I walked into a Walmart today.

I saw a Marlin 60 semi-automatic .22lr rifle, tube magazine. I have been thinking of buying one...

Turns out that the Marlin 60 is an "assault weapon" here in MA, and is restricted to those holding LTCs, Class A permits, which are hard to get here.

Great.

Most anything semi-auto is an AW now. :cuss:

 Dang, I though semiauto .22s were generally exempt from all those ridiculous laws...

Methinks it's time to move. And for the record, I love my 795SS (an evil detachable magazine-fed Marlin 60). :)

Mulliga, the magfed is fine. The tubefed is an AW.

:uhoh:  :scrutiny:

Yeah, riiiight....

I'm at a loss to figure it out, perhaps capacity over 10? Anything, and I do mean anything, that holds over 10 rounds, 5 for shotgun, is an AW here in MA I guess.

I don't. I'm in the same boat! Well, you know what I mean.

Those dreaded twenty-two caliber rapid fire spray and pray rim-primed pin actuated assault weapons of doom didn't do us any good anyway, I suppose.

I'll just buy the magfed version.

WHAT!Indeed. can this be real? ... I mean - this is my fave 22 plinker ... tube mag and all .... are they serious? Guess they are.

Heck ... the rot is spreading .... :(

I wonder - will my staple gun or nail gun - soon be reclassified .. I mean ... multiple ''shots'' are possible ... can't be allowed surely!! giveup.gif

It has a lot to do with crying myself to sleep most nights... :D

The best part is that most people simply ignore the laws here, and many policemen refuse to enforce them in a lot of cases.

That AK with a 30 round mag? No, it's not an AW. Nope, it's okay to have. You say you only have an FID? I never saw it anyway...

When even the police think the laws are completely worthless, what does that say?

You got fed a line of bull ! http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/140-121.htm

The term "large capacity feeding device'' shall not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber ammunition.

At any rate , you wouldn't need a Class A LTC to buy an AK with as many 30 round mags as you want , that just needs a Class B .

The gun laws here are not hard to live with at all , so long as your local CLEO is reasonable . It's easier for me to buy and carry here than it was in NC and I've never heard it called an anti-gun state but YMMV

Walmart WILL NOT sell me a Marlin model 60. Reason: I don't have a LTC, only an FID.

I can buy their other rifles sure, but ANYTHING that has a capacity over 10 rounds, they won't sell it to me. At all.

Who should I call on this one?

"Who should I call on this?"

A realtor, and your favorite household moving company.

I couldn't bring my OLD Marlin 99 to MD, either....tube fed, holds an eeeeeevil 17 rounds of 22LR.

Walmart get in touch with the regional manager and proivde a copy of the law, call corporate headquarters and complain.

Personally I would find a local gunshop where they actually know the law and buy the Marlin 60 there, even if it costs you another $30.;)

When I think of how many of these assault weapons I've supplied to young teens... I'm just disgusted with myself. I'm going to turn myself in right now. Or at least as soon as I have a nap.

I've always wanted some kind of AW. Having only a lever gun, some SG's and two tube fed .22's including a model 60.
Looks like I already have an AW. In fact it was my first rifle. :p
In fact, now that I think about it, it IS all black too!

Heck ... the rot is spreading ....

If you only knew. If you get a second, read this:

Looks like I'll be calling a realtor too. :banghead: :barf: :banghead:

Third_Rail,

Just move to New Hampshire. It is much easier and better for your health than living in Taxachussett. (Well, we get taxed up here like there is no tomorrow, but we don't have an income or sales tax! )

I hope all of those affluent Mas... (you know what I was going to say) don't get it in their minds to get into politics up here in NH and do the same thing. It would be awfully hard to disarm ALL of New Hampshire without a fight.

Oh my god... I just gave a pair of tube fed .22 caliber Nylon-66 remingtons to a pair of young kids...

but I did not KNOW that they were assault weapons! really, I just thought they were .22 cal PLINKERS...

What have I done!

Well, to rectify the problem, I better find 2 MORE Nylon 66's and two more deserving children! afterall, shouldn't EVERY child have a tube fed .22 caliber assault weapon!

I'm glad that I won't be in MA for too much longer... school in VT will be so... free. :D

But anyway, I'll have to live with what I can scrounge up. Hmm, a WASR-10 with 10 round mags is legal for me, but that Marlin 60 isn't. Go figure! :D

I feelike putting a 100 round mag on an AK just to irk Massachusets. Since I am in AZ, I can do that, then carry it concealed on a CCW....
