I have Williams peep/globe sights on my Savage. The front sight has interchangable inserts for different size posts or globes and is completely protected within a shroud. You can change the insert in less than a minute without changing the zero of the rifle.

AB not feet yards 30-40 of them. I often shot empty .22lr cases at distances where they were almost invisible without the scope. Misses were very rare. (sigh) I really miss the old days when a miss was blamed on the shooters ability not the gun.
