I want to get a .22 autoloading rifle to scope. I want good accuracy out of the box and I dont want to tinker. (that's how I break things) I havea Marlin 60 that I was happy with until I put a scope on it and tried to keep up with my brother's 10-22. I don't want a 10-22 and I don't think I want a 597. Does anyone have a reason why I should avoid the Marlin 7000? It looks and feel great but I haven't heard much about them all I hear is 60, 60, 60... Any input would be appretiated. Thanks

I just bought a Marlin 795, the 7000 is the heavy barrel version of the 795, and I believe they all use the Marlin 60 action, except with magazine feed instead of the tube feed. I also didn't like the 10/22 I had, because it was heavy, clunky, and had a horrible trigger. I wanted something that was light, easy to handle, and pretty accurate out of the box. Which is what I think the Marlin is. I haven't had a chance to shoot it a whole lot, but from my experience thus far, it is definitely lighter and more maneuverable than the 10/22, and has a far better trigger, in my opinion, than a factory 10/22. Also, extremely reliable with a variety of ammo. As far as accuracy, my only tests have been at 25yds with random cheap ammo, but if you do your part, it will keep all shots touching at that distance. The heavy barreled 7000 is supposed to be more accurate, so I don't think it'll be lacking in that department. The only things I did to mine was to add a scope on regular weaver mounts, and a bipod. Accessories is the only place, if any, the Marlin is at a disadvantage. However, since you said you didn't want to tinker with it anyways, I think it should suit you just fine. I don't know how accuracy will compare to a highly customized 10/22 with all the gadgets, but I assume if you wanted to spend that kind of money on a .22 you would've gotten a 10/22 to begin with. Hope this helps.

Can anyone else confirm that Marlin uses the Model 60 action on the 7000? I held one about 2 months ago and I thought that it looked different. Maybe just the receiver is different? I have never heard of a 795. Does it have iron sights or is it scope intended like the 7000? Sythetic stock?

I have a 7000 and I love that thing. The trigger takes some getting used to but
I can put 5 rounds on a nickel at 50 yards (with mini mags). And it only cost me $150. Whats not to like about that?

I have the marlin 7000 also. Great little rifle. I like that the action locks back after the last round and it has a lever like a slide release on an semi auto handgun that lets the action go forward to load a round from a fresh mag. It out shoots my stock ruger 10/22 and a savage mod 62 auto that I just gave my stepson.

The 795 has a synthetic stock and has iron sights. It has one of those 3/8" dovetail rails that most .22's have, but I used an adapter to convert it to a regular weaver base. It was $119 on sale at Big 5.
