I just bought a Marlin 795, the 7000 is the heavy barrel version of the 795, and I believe they all use the Marlin 60 action, except with magazine feed instead of the tube feed. I also didn't like the 10/22 I had, because it was heavy, clunky, and had a horrible trigger. I wanted something that was light, easy to handle, and pretty accurate out of the box. Which is what I think the Marlin is. I haven't had a chance to shoot it a whole lot, but from my experience thus far, it is definitely lighter and more maneuverable than the 10/22, and has a far better trigger, in my opinion, than a factory 10/22. Also, extremely reliable with a variety of ammo. As far as accuracy, my only tests have been at 25yds with random cheap ammo, but if you do your part, it will keep all shots touching at that distance. The heavy barreled 7000 is supposed to be more accurate, so I don't think it'll be lacking in that department. The only things I did to mine was to add a scope on regular weaver mounts, and a bipod. Accessories is the only place, if any, the Marlin is at a disadvantage. However, since you said you didn't want to tinker with it anyways, I think it should suit you just fine. I don't know how accuracy will compare to a highly customized 10/22 with all the gadgets, but I assume if you wanted to spend that kind of money on a .22 you would've gotten a 10/22 to begin with.
