I just purchased a Marlin 88-22 (.22LR) from the LGS. I friend looked at it a few days ago, then decided to get a plastic stocked Savage .22 from Dick's. He paid $149 plus tax, fees and whatever else.

The Marlin had a $189 tag on it, I walked in and paid $175 out the door (p/u after the holiday).

It is an interesting rifle in that it has a tube magazine in the buttstock vs under the barrel. I don't know anything about it. I know its older. It has a scope, I think an inexpensive tasco maybe. They said it came from a good guy they know. I looks to be in pretty good shape. Admittedly, I didn't look it over very well ( busy chasing my toddler around the shop, lol)

What can you guys tell me about this rifle?

A little online research says these were produced late forties thru early/mid fifties. Said to be the first auto loading .22 Marlin produced. Most were fairly accurate, perhaps less than stellar operation.

One thing that was noted, that since the tubular mag is contained inside the wooden stock it is more protected against bumps and bruises that an under barrel mag.

Took this rifle out today. I really like it. Nice and accurate. The Bushnell scope is good.
I brought several brands of .22lr. It fed well with CCI mini mags, CCI stingers and Blazer, but I had several jams with cheap federal, Winchester white box, Thunder bolt and Remington "golden bullet"
Most of these were hollow point, but the CCI and Blazer were both round nose.
I also noticed the Blazer says CCI on the box. Is this true?? Blazer is just cheap CCI?
