2 day local gun show, today and tomorrow and a guy has a decent Marlin Camp 9 carbine with 15 round magazine (brand?). No front site hood and the stock could use re-finishing (coat of tru-oil). He is asking $325 but I'm sure he'd go for $300. IIRC these are fairly scarce and usually go for $350 and up. This is the first one I've seen in this area in 15 years but I have owned 1 or 2 before and they work fine. They take S&W 59 magazines right?

I saw one in a gunstore a few weeks ago.Looked great until I saw the $500 on the tag.
S&w mag=yes.
If you want it then get it.The price is pretty good.

I didn't particularly care for the design then, or now. The Sub-2000 is the same price, folds in half and is NEW. And they can also take the S&W or Glock mags.

$300 for a Camp 9 is an excellent price. These are great guns, IMO. I have a Camp 45. Fun to shoot, reliable, and quite accurate. They take S&W 59xx mags, so pre-ban high caps are easy to get and reasonably priced.

I'd jump on it for that price.

The Marlin is a bear to breakdown and clean. Trust me, it gets dirty quick too. Other than that, it feels better than either the sub2k, but I think if you want a good gun in that class and don't mind the weight, the Ruger is the way to go.

Me, I'd buy it for that price in good condition.

I had one in .45, very nice.
If you do buy it, never let gunscrubber or other sprays get on the plastic mag guard/trigger guard. This is an older type of plastic that will melt.

I've seen them for about $350 in excellent cond. so it is a fair price. Only buy it if you like the gun and not just because it is a deal. There are times that I buy a gun just because it is a great deal but $300 for a beat up Marlin Camp 9 is not something I would buy unless I was looking for one beforehand.

Thanks for the advise but I got to thinking and decided to get a Kel-Tec sub 2000 in 40 S&W. It goes for the same price and is a more powerful cartridge. I think the Marlin has been over taken by newer designs.
