Hi fellas, I am on a Marlin buying kick and would like some help on my most reason purchase. I own a 336RC in .35 Rem cal Mfg in 1961 and a 336SC in a .30-30 cal. Mfg. in 1949. My new Marlin is a Model 36 in .30-30.cal. Mfg. between 1936 and 1940. A very nice rifle that is in the 98% range.
Because of the great fire, Marlin is unable to give me the year of Mfg. The Tang is marked "Marlin 1936" and it has a combed butt plate. There is no prefix in the serial number. The rifle is either an original Model 36 mfg 1936/1937 or the 1st. variation mfg. 1937/1940. In 1940, they started using a prefix in the serial number.
Can anyone tell me if there is any noticeable differences in the original Mod. 36 and the Mod 36 1st. variation??? The original has more value.
Any help will be welcomed. Thanks, Tom Ser. # is "18XX"
