Authorizing a person to sell ammunition for a regulated firearm on or after January 1, 2008, only in accordance with the Act; requiring an ammunition manufacturer to encode ammunition for a regulated firearm in a specified way; requiring the Secretary of State Police beginning on January 1, 2008, to establish and maintain an encoded ammunition database; imposing a tax of 5 cents per round on the sale of encoded ammunition beginning on January 1, 2008; etc.

Discussion is ongoing here: http://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?t=867

I'll be on this tonight :fire:

Looks like I have my subject for my next publication

You mean Maryland.

The place that wants a 5 cents tax on each .22lr round sold on the state.

What is it with Maryland?

Is this all since the sniper thing, or was it going on before?

Maryland has a long history of being on the bleeding edge of anti-gun activism, long before the sniper. The safe handguns list, which was intended to stop sales of so-called saturday night specials. This was in the late 80s, IIRC. The integral handgun locks. The assault pistol and magazine over 20 rounds ban. The regulated weapons rules. The elimination of private gun sales without a background check. It has been a state with a liberal, democratic voting population for some time. It is actually surprising to me they escaped an earlier "assault weapons" ban. There must be enough conservative voting blocs out their on the eastern shore to save them, thank god :)

Actually, it's only three counties in the middle of MD that are on the blue side of things. Unfortuantly for the rest of MD, they seem to be the only votes that count. As someone on the Eastern Shore of Md I'd love to be annexed into VA.

Yeah they learned nothing from the Shell casing registry experience did they.

It wont work but hey that doesnt matter:barf:

I'm sure this will be targeted at rounds that are the choice of criminals and terrorists, like 9mm, choice of gang bangers, and cop killers,:banghead: and "armour piercing" 7.62x39, and 5.56 "military" ammo:mad:

22lr, shotgun shells for duck hunting, and deer hunting rounds like .30-.30 will be exempt.

Hahaha.... yeah right. If this passes, ammunition manufacturers just won't ship to MD.

Requiring special "encoded" ammunition is like trying to require using your real name for internet forum registrations. Ain't gonna happen, and the industry will shun the state before they comply.

isnt it illegale to tax something twice? wouldnt you be paying state taxes already +the ammo tax of .5c per round!:what:

Just a partial list of calibers of firearms that will no longer have ammunition available if this thing passes:

Any handgun caliber - ANY!:what:

.22lr
.223 Remington
.308 Winchester
12 gauge - all 12 gauge - read that again - all 12 gauge
7.62x39
.50BMG
6.5 Grendel (.264 cal)
6.8 SPC (.270 cal)
.300 Whisper
.45 Bushmaster
.458 SOCOM
.50 AE
.50 Beowulf

Furthermore, there is no way around the caliber restrictions because the minute that someone rechambers a "regulated firearm" for a new caliber, it is by definition banned.

"I'll just reload" - Think again....after 2010, the POSSESSION of ammunition not meeting the new requirements is forbidden. All such ammunition must be destroyed.

K-Rom....

Thanks, it's fixed!

Amazing how a bunch of people can proof read something and it still has mistakes in it

this is just crazy....i shoot at PG, Pintail, Delmarva, and others. How is it possible that soooo many idiots are in gov't "speaking" for us???

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

haole,

If this bill passes, kiss trap shooting goodbye in MD. A 12 gauge trap gun is capable of accepting the same ammuntion as a regulated shotgun and would thus not have ammo available for it.

Besides, how would Winchester serialize every pellet in a shot shell?

This is tooooooo rediculous to pass isn't it?

I get so frustrated sometimes I just want to move, but at the same time i want to fight for my rights. Just always seems like we are fighting a losing battle in MD.

It probably won't go anywhere. Last time I checked there were no co-sponsors. We don't want to be surprised though, so the best course of action is to fight it like it has a chance to pass.
