I'll kick this thread off and let the others in attendance chime in as they get the chance. We had a great afternoon at Continental in Timonium - thankfully the predicted snow held off until we had wrapped things up. If I counted correctly there were eight of us present: chaim, LeadPumper, Solomon Short, Norton, Spot77, P95Carry, and Slimjim in addition to yours truly. If I left anyone out please forgive me and add your name to the list... us "seniors" down in lane one were having a bit of trouble remembering who was who :)

Many thanks to chaim for once again serving as the instigator and getting us all together. Thanks also to Spot77 for letting me try out that Bersa - very nice little gun. Hmmm... might have to get one of those. And thanks also to P95Carry for letting many of us sample various guns from the impressive arsenal he lugged down for the occasion. P95, BTW, took a couple of pics of the assembled motley bunch - hopefully he'll post one after he makes the long drive home.

BTW - chaim, what was that lever action rifle you had with you? I meant to ask but it slipped my mind as were were preparing to leave. I used to have a Marlin 1894C in .357 magnum... it was a nice little gun and I keep meaning to pick up another. Just wondering if that's what you had.

You meet the nicest folks on-line here at THR, and it's a real pleasure to get together in person and put faces to the screen names. Nice seeing all of you guys - some for the second time and several for the first time. Looking forward to a rifle shoot after the weather improves a bit.

Sorry some who had planned to attend couldn't make it for one reason or another. Looking forward to meeting you at a future gathering.

Until then - take care all, and shoot safely!

A good time had by one and all!

BTW JeepDriver was down on lane 10 by Spot77 and me....I give my vote to Jeep for being the THR shooting team coach.....he was unloading mags and cylinders at high rates of speed into the tightest little groups you've ever seen. Mighty fine full size .357 he had there.

Thanks to mdshooter, Chaim, Solomon Short, and lead pumper I got to shoot 4 fine model 1911s in the space of 5 minutes. While they were all extremely nice firearms (Charles Daly, Wilson Combat, Kimber Custom, Colt Commander) the Colt really "spoke" to me. Very comfortable grips for my somewhat oversized mitts.

After shooting the larger calibers....my USP9f feels like a pop gun in comparison:D

The highlight film of the night has to be when either Solomon Short or Lead Pumper started firing off the Remington 870. Everyone on the line leaned back out of the cubicle as if to say, "What the %^** was that?"

I enjoyed it everybody......I'm looking forward to a THR rifle shoot later this year. My SKS and CZ452 really need the exercise:D

Sorry Jeep for leaving you out... in the noise (was it noisy? I didn't notice) we didn't have the chance to formally meet. Perhaps next time. At any rate - glad you made it and again, my apologies.

Jeep Driver was there but I don't think we met, that's a bit of a disappointment. I'm also sorry that 45Badger showed up, but we only talked very briefly just as I got my lane and I think he may have given up on the wait because I didn't see him come in later. He came from PA so I really do feel bad about that, especially since I had my lane to myself- I should have offered to share my lane. Sorry about that.

Many thanks to chaim for once again serving as the instigator and getting us all together.
Not a problem. Heck, if I didn't do it someone else would have.

As for the "toys"... mdshooter, the lever gun was my new (for me) Winchester 94 in .45LC. I love it (but I'm not that accurate with it yet, though others who shot it did fine). My Colt clone was a bust...The fired caps just kept jamming up the works like they never did with my Remington clone (in fact I had to take it apart twice in only one cylinder).

I'd have to agree. I really loved shooting that Commander. Reinforces my desire for a compact 1911 and gives the Kimber Pro Carry II (another 4" alloy framed 1911) an extra leg up. Oh, and you're welcome on shooting the Daly- let me know if you want to try it again and I'll meet you at the range sometime.

Spot, it was a treat to shoot your CZ 40 again. I forgot how lightweight it is. About the only thing I wish was different about it is the width (I like slim guns). Still, fun and comfortable gun to shoot. Definately if you ever get bored of it I'd love to buy it back from you (I've said it before, I'll say it again, if Wally World and Winchester had come out with the value packs in .40 earlier I might have never sold it- oh well). It really is a great gun. Oh, BTW, has it ever bobbled on you- I can't remember one hicup at any time when it was mine (though I can't remember any there may have been one or two in break in)? Did I say "great gun" yet? :D

My favorite part of the day was letting others try my guns. Slimjim definately seemed enthusiastic in general, and having someone like that on your guns is a treat. Everyone who tried it seemed to like the Daly- I love having such a good experience with a cheap 1911 (though it did do something it never did before- it failed to lock back on the empty chamber a couple times, I guess it's time to check the mag springs). As usual everyone who shot it loved the CZ 75B.

So what do you guys think? When should we do this again? I like the idea posed before we left to do a rifle shoot in March when it starts to warm up a little. Should we do another pistol shoot again before then?

If anyone wants to get together between now and then either post a thread to see who we can get, or PM me and I'd be happy to meet up with one or two of you guys (or those who didn't make it).

There were a few people who were missed. Since a bunch of people didn't make it who wanted to, and we had a good crowd anyway, I'm wondering if we shouldn't do this more often. Do you guys think we'd be able to get the crowds for a more frequent shoot? Maybe we could do this almost monthly? Oh, and those who wanted to reschedule to next week, maybe post a thread if you still want to shoot next week. I'd be up for it (I haven't shot much in the past few months, in fact other than trying out my new Winchester the first time it has been 2-3 months, so I certainly am up for more shooting).

I just got back, Thanks especially to leadpumper and Others who paid the rest of the money that i forgot. Ill have it next time guys, never been to that range before.

Anyway, i shot the madman, the .454 casull SRH That p95 had, One shot, recoil was less then i thought, But it knocked the target off with one shot, :D

I'd love to go next time. Learned weeks ago that I'd have to pick the Sainted GF up at the airport this afternoon so I knew I was out.

Did y'all have the place to yourself due to the threat of snow? May actually have worked in your favor.

Hope everyone got home OK.

I was kind of hoping that myself, you konw how Marylanders are about the threat of snow. Unfortunately, it was quite busy. In fact there was a short wait for lanes by the time I got there. It was fun, but of course that many people shooting made it harder to talk.

I don't know about being able to make a monthly shoot at Continental.....I was a little taken aback by the cost of the 2.5 hours of range time.......my fault for not paying attention to the posted rates I guess.

No one seemed too interested in shooting the USP9, hmmm.....oh well, more for me:evil: .

This outing may end up being more expensive than I first considered.....those 1911s made quite an impression on me. I may check out one of the Springfield Mil-Specs as a cost effective comparison to some of the fine arms I shot today.....though the Charles Daly was certainly no slouch and is in the same price range as the SA.

Hmm....decisions, decisions......1911 or M1 Garand? Please don't say both:p

OTOH.....the wife has been mentioning that she'd like to have a 1911...sooooooo...if the 1911 is hers, then the M1 would be mine, right?

Wow. I usually roll in there about 9 or 10 AM on Saturday or Sunday and its usually just me and maybe one other person.

A rifle shoot in March would be great (GF wants to come too). I have a '43 Mosin-Nagant I haven't tried yet that I'm itching to fire.

I love reading about these get togethers, and am inspired to set another up for Northern California here. Y'all are invited. ;)

hmmmm....I posted on the Original thread about the shoot, but just for kicks I'll copy and paste it here too.....

----------------------------------------------

Well fellas, today was a blast (ok,ok.....bad pun)

It was great to see you guys again and to meet a few new people.

I learned a few things today:

The Kel-tec sub 2000 is a bit smaller than I thought, but way more fun to shoot. THANK YOU Leadpumper for bringing it. If you ever want to sell it, let me know.

The CZ83 is a very solid gun, and a bit heavier that the BERSA Thunder 380. A little less snap on the shot too. VERY nice gun; I would recommend it as quickly as I would the Bersa. Nice little gun you have there Mdshooter.

Jeepdriver, you get the "Kickass Shooter of the Day" award. Please share some of your secrets.

Chaim, I really was impressed with the Charles Daly 1911. Thanks for letting me bust my 1911 cherry; I'm looking forward to the day when I can afford another handgun

P95, your arsenal is scary. And the 454...well..... I hope the weather and traffic were on your side for the drive home.

I can't believe Norton and I were there for the better part of three hours.

Now to the fun part......cleaning the guns:neener:

Sven you might change your mind about that if P95 posts any of the pictures from today

Ole Phart is back ..... at last!!

Hey guys ... well, forecast was horribly accurate!!:p

Was pretty good up until nearer Frederick and then the first signs started ... not too bad but ..... by time I reached Hagerstown it was well under way ..... and pretty much got worse from there.

Stormed along when I could (thank heaven for the knobblies I fitted for winter) ... but inevitably towards latter stages .. got nasty slow. Relieved to be back and have just finished unpacking truck and getting slightly organised. Camera is being given a bit of time to equalize temperature .. so don't go away ..... pic will appear soon.

Jeep was there eh .. damn! Sorry jeep - so busy down on #1 ... and never realized you were there to say Hi ... hope to put that right another time.

And 45Badger came in??? hell .. when was that ... I never saw him and had hoped to ...... sounds awefully like a wasted trip!:(

Great seeing everyone ..... maybe a pity it was quite so busy but - hey - we didn't do bad eh ... and it was a pleasure meeting everyone.

Back soon with a pic I hope.

OK guys - here we go. The flash is pathetic .. had to tweak this quite a bit to liven it up ....not brilliant but - a record eh! Trying to upgrade my camera soon.

md_group_s.jpg

OK - from left standing ...... ''Ole Phart'' ... me! ...... then Norton (the short guy!!) and next Spot77 his bro. Then Slimjim, mdshooter and Chaim. Sitting left to right was LeadPumper and his Bro Soloman Short. Just jeep who was missing, oh and 45Badger ... very sorry they were not included.

Spot ....... you mentioned about Jeep being the ''kicka**'' shooter ... well, mdshooter with his Wilson (which he kindly let me try - and it is a dream!) ..... was knockin some ragged holes .... that's for sure. And he did much same with a 9mm ..... forget what he was using ... damn, so much to notice and remember!! Perhaps he'll remind me. I think he liked my M27-2 as well!

Thx to all .... great session :)

Well... done with the cleaning and now I simply reek of Hoppes. There's no finer cologne IMHO :D

So sorry we didn't "connect" with 45Badger... wish you'd come in and shouted "ANYBODY HERE FROM THR? "... as crowded as it was there would have been no shortage of volunteers to share a lane with you. Please do try again next time we have an MD shoot.

P95: so glad to hear you made it home ok. Still no snow here at 9:25 in northern Baltimore County, but I suspect it'll be here shortly.. whereabouts in PA are you located? I live here in Baltimore County - almost to the PA line; work near Aberdeen, MD, but am often in Hagerstown as my company has a facility at the airport there. Sounds like that might not be too far from you. It was a great pleasure to meet you, BTW.

I'm really looking forward to a rifle shoot when the weather's better and we can set it up. Got a lot of "toys" that are just itching for a trip to the rifle range. And chaim: I think a monthly (or so) attempt to get together would be great. I love to get out and shoot, but tend to get busy with other things and let it slip. The chance to get together with such a great group of folks (and others who couldn't make it this time) might be the incentive I need to "just do it."

Edited to add: Thanks Chris - great picture and a really nice way to remember the day. Hope we meet up again soon :) Oh - thanks for the compliments... I was most impressed with the couple of hand cannons you brought along... and was (as you noted) quite taken with your S&W 27... here we go again... something else to add to "the list." I think it was my CZ83 that I was doing fairly well with, though your really nice High Power was one of the nicest (and - in my hands - most accurate) guns I fired during the afternoon.

Kudos to your shooting as well... I was very impressed with the small groups you fired at maximum range with a variety of the pieces you brought.

Chris,

Glad you made it back safe and sound. Thanks for the picture.....sorry the subject matter couldn't have been a little better....at least from my end;)

If anyone ever wants to join Spot and I for a round of trap at PG, let us know. I have two shotguns and the rentals there are ridiculously cheap if we have a couple folks show up.

I wish I would've made it down that end a little more often....No disrespect meant to the other 8 shooters there who were kickin' my butt!

Monthly meets would be a little rough on my wallet, but I'm good for every 2 to 3 months.....unless we meet at On Target in Severn, where the wife has kindly bought me a membership.

P95: That picture turned out great considering the subjects!:neener:

Hey guys,
I was going to try to make it today, but I had to get a lot of practicing in. When's the next one? Does anyone know what the progress is on the handgun lanes at the Hap Baker range in Carroll County. If they're done soon we can have the shoots there in March and April. It'd be a lot cheaper and best of all we can bring rifles!

Rich

whereabouts in PA are you located? I live here in Baltimore County - almost to the PA line; work near Aberdeen, MD, but am often in Hagerstown
mdshooter - near forgot you mentioned this.

Well - it's quite some ways home from Hagerstown .... and even when I leave MD near I 68 .. still gotta go another 30 plus miles to Breezewood ... where I 70 and route 30 interesect ..... then 30 miles on SR 30 to home. Which is sorta NW of Bedford town itself.

Not that bad a run - when no snow!!:p

Oh yeah, I did get to shoot P95/Chris' S&W 28, man that had a great trigger- I have some S&Ws with some nice triggers but nothing like this (heck, it might be better than the Python who's owner nicely let me dry fire it once, until now it was hands down the nicest trigger I've tried). I've got my M57 coming soon (waiting period), that 28 had a great trigger, that 27 was georgeous- is it time for me to go on an N-frame kick?...Hmm, I love .357s so a 27 and 28 are musts, if I like my M57 I'll be needing a 58 or more worn 57 "beater", a nice 29 might be good, a 25 would be wonderful... .

I forgot all about that CZ 83, I would have liked to try it. Mdshooter, would you mind bringing it next time? P95/Chris brought the HiPower and I forgot all about it, darn. I really wanted to try it (I haven't shot a HP in a while and I really liked it- I need a fire lit under me to pick one up).

So after this shoot I need:evil: a compact alloy 1911, an N-frame or five, but I still need motivation for a CZ 83 and BHP :D .

Chris, I'm glad you made it home in one piece. I guess it must be less dry where you are if the snow started earlier (the air was so dry the weather was saying that the storm was going to be over the area for a while before it actually started snowing- it was all evaporating).

As for the picture, sorry my face cracked your lense:evil: I should have warned you.

I am so sorry I missed you guys. Babysitters shouldn't be allowed to get sick! Anyway, ANApex and I have a membership to On Target so we can meet there as often as you like. It's closer to where we live so its no problem to switch off watching the kids if we can't get a babysitter. Let's get together again real soon! Please...

Btw...Norton and Spot77 look really familiar. Maybe I saw you before at the range...I can't put my finger on it.

After shooting JeepDriver's .357 (sorry, don't know my SW models and frame sizes), I may have to consider trading in my Taurus .38spl on a full sized .357

GirlWithAGun,

Spot77 and I are usually at On Target together, that way we can trade off each other's guns without having to actually go out and buy them for ourselves:D If you see us there, come over and say, Hi......if you're with Anapex I'll put 2 and 2 together since he and I met at PG on a trap get together.

Well like my wife said we're real sorry we had to miss, if I would have read Chaim's message about the large staging area we might have tried to make it up with the kids. Sounds like everyone had a lot of fun though. I definitely second having the next one at On Target, the wife and I both have memberships there so we can at least help two people get in for half price.

Norton: If you want to try out a Springfield MILSPEC and a Garand let me know and we can meet up somewhere to let you try them out. And if you need a woman to really convince your wife you need a 1911 have her talk to my wife. I know she loves mi...er hers.
