How rude of him. Didn't he know all that stuff is banned in Mass? We must need more restrictions, eh?

Current reports are he shot himself. Can't these guys ever get it right and shoot themselves FIRST?

This was the second attack at a club in the city this year. In February, a teenager attacked patrons of a gay bar with a gun and hatchet. Three people were hurt. Jacob Robida, 18, fled authorities then killed two people in Arkansas and fatally shot himself after a police chase.

In October, a 21-year-old Bourne man was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder for allegedly trying to run down two police officers outside the Foxy Lady after an altercation inside the club.

Didn't know New Bedford has become such a swinging place.

Yeah the ignorance of the media and the ignorance involved in the laws they help to shape never prevail. An M16 has been illegal for all intents and purposes since the NFA, before they even existed. An AR-15 has been an evil 'assault' weapon lashing out and attacking people since 1994 in MA and banned accordingly.
Oh and "Massachusetts statute also criminalizes the use of body armor, not just the wearing of it." So he was illegaly using a banned weapon, while wearing banned armor, while committing crimes he is banned from committing. When will criminals start following the law?! Perhaps we need more laws to convince them?
Obtaining a firearm at all in MA requires registration and state permission etc. This makes it an ideal place for shooting sprees and confident criminals. A criminal is less likely to be shot while committing multiple homicides in MA because if people are following the law any legaly possessed weapon should be locked away with locking devices far from reach if they are even possessed at all:
"If not under the your direct control, or under the direct control of some other person with the proper FID or LTC, all guns must be stored in a locked container or equipped with a tamper resistant mechanical lock or other safety device, properly engaged so as to render the gun inoperable by the owner or other lawfully authorized user. The penalty for each violation of this law can be severe: up to $10,000 in fines and ten years imprisonment in state prison, and revocation of your LTC or FID."

not to be a nitpicker, but ...

i) i thought only boston had an assault weapons ban

and

ii) you CAN have a full auto in mass if you jump through the right hoops (green card).

Notwithstanding these nits ... it probably is some liberal bedwetting journalist fretting about an m-16 (saw the headline on foxnews) instead of a more likely AR semi auto.

the entire state has Assault weapon ban ( restriction of sales, no new weapons) boston has a actual BAN.

Chapter 140: Section 131M. Assault weapon or large capacity feeding device not lawfully possessed on September 13, 1994; sale, transfer or possession; punishment

Section 131M. No person shall sell, offer for sale, transfer or possess an assault weapon or a large capacity feeding device that was not otherwise lawfully possessed on September 13, 1994. Whoever not being licensed under the provisions of section 122 violates the provisions of this section shall be punished, for a first offense, by a fine of not less than $1,000 nor more than $10,000 or by imprisonment for not less than one year nor more than ten years, or by both such fine and imprisonment, and for a second offense, by a fine of not less than $5,000 nor more than $15,000 or by imprisonment for not less than five years nor more than 15 years, or by both such fine and imprisonment.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to: (i) the possession by a law enforcement officer for purposes of law enforcement; or (ii) the possession by an individual who is retired from service with a law enforcement agency and is not otherwise prohibited from receiving such a weapon or feeding device from such agency upon retirement.

you can get a MG in MA, just need the state "machine gun license" easy enough to get, and the regular NFA stuff. only NFA that i know of banned in MA is supressors but i havnt looked too far into it ( oh and covert weapons)

“Assault Weapons”:
Chapter 180 defines certain handguns, rifles and shotguns as “assault weapons.” (Chapter 140, section 123.) No person is allowed to sell, offer for sale, transfer, or possess an assault weapon or a large capacity feeding device that was not otherwise lawfully possessed on September 13, 1994. (Chapter 140, section 131M.)

A gun is a “large capacity weapon” if it (1) is semi-automatic with a fixed large capacity feeding device (2) is semiautomatic and capable of accepting or being modified to accept a large capacity feeding device (3) employs a rotating cylinder capable of accepting more than ten rounds of ammunition in a rifle or handgun and more than five shells in the case of a shotgun or firearm or (4) is an “assault weapon.” As you can see, most semi-automatic rifles, shotguns and handguns fit this definition. (Chapter 140, section 123.) The Executive Office of Public Safety maintains (and updates with legally-minimal notice) an official roster of “large capacity weapons.”

Technicaly it is illegal to even have a detachable magazine based firearm if a higher capacity magazine exists that could be inserted as this would mean it was capable of "accepting or being modified to accept a large capacity feeding device" as a magazine over 10 rounds is such a device. I guess it is just one of those extra things in place so technicaly everyone is breaking the law and it is up to officer discretion when to harass. Blank check for police in a police state.

Do you Realy expect accurate reports fom the media in MA? Shame on You!

This happened only miles from my home. The mayor of New Bedford has been on the news and in the newspaper saying that he was awoken by what sounded like "canon-fire" only to find out it was a "high powered" assault weapon. He doesnt see a need for citizens to own anything like this.

I forgot which news station this was on, but a Massachusetts Gun Owner's Action League representative was also interviewed who was very professional and tried to explain that its not the guns fault that the guy was crazy. He explained it much more eloquently than that but that was the gist. At least that news station portrayed both sides of the gun debate.

The shooter used a lawfully owned AR-15 and was a Class A LTC holder. We still have the Federal AWB rules in place and obtaining a license for buying an AR isn't very difficult.Of course what this means is that it's too easy to buy evil weapons that cause good people to do bad things and it's just the ammo our new prince needs to give us an even harsher ban.Not like any AR's have gathered dust on MA gun shop shelves since the election,we've all figured it was coming and I said it before,it was inevitable that some @$$hole would have to prove the liberals "right".

Ten to one that Deval Patrick starts off with gun control on his first day on the job. You people in Mass will be lucky if you can keep pointy sticks.

One of his campaign promises was to stop face to face firearms sales to stop " the gunshow loophole" but of course anyone that did it illegally doesn't care and anyone who sells face to face legally in MA fills out the FA-10 forms to register the gun anyway so it's utterly rediculous. We've all figured an even "better" AWB is in the cards.

PART IV. CRIMES, PUNISHMENTS AND PROCEEDINGS IN CRIMINAL CASES

TITLE I. CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS

CHAPTER 269. CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC PEACE

Chapter 269: Section 10. Carrying dangerous weapons; possession of machine gun or sawed-off shotguns; possession of large capacity weapon or large capacity feeding device; punishment

c) Whoever, except as provided by law, possesses a machine gun, as defined in section one hundred and twenty-one of chapter one hundred and forty, without permission under section one hundred and thirty-one of said chapter one hundred and forty; or whoever owns, possesses or carries on his person, or carries on his person or under his control in a vehicle, a sawed-off shotgun, as defined in said section one hundred and twenty-one of said chapter one hundred and forty, shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for life, or for any term of years provided that any sentence imposed under the provisions of this paragraph shall be subject to the minimum requirements of paragraph (a).

shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for life

Dayum!

one hundred and twenty-one of chapter one hundred and forty, without permission under section one hundred and thirty-one of said chapter one hundred and forty

Is the law null and void becuase of bad grammer?

"One hundred twenty-one" is a number "one hundred and twenty-one" is two numbers.

I guess the MA legislators never went to grade school. :D

How many people were killed by drunk drivers the same day in MA?
How many people died of "medical misadventure" the same day in MA?
How many people were stabbed to death the same day in MA?

Just curious...

Stabbings and shootings in the "lesser" areas of MA like the "bad" parts of Boston and also the general areas of Worcester and Lowell don't even make the news, because there's so many of them.
