Has anyone here fired a Mateba (preferably the 8" version) in .454 Casull caliber? I am debating getting one simply because I think that the Mateba's inate design might be the only way I can fire a round of this size and not hurt myself. Haha. I am curious what the .454 feels comparable to shot out of a Mateba. If no one has shot .454, I'd be interested to know what the .44 mag. feels like shot out of one too.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on my question. Thanks!

Not sure re the cal but do a search on Mateba - we have had one or two good threads on them in past.

I can well believe the low bore axis would be useful but had not been aware of the gun being chambered for .454 or even .45 LC.

Moved your post to revolvers - more appropriate!

I remember a range report about a guy with a .454 Casull Mateba. Personally, I want a .44 magnum version. He said that the kick wasn't as bad as he had expected.

Giolli Joker, I read your post about your Mateba. I am sold! I do, however, have a few questions for you.

Just how big a fella are ya'? I'm 5'11", 172lbs, but pretty wiry. I'm wondering how I'd handle what recoil there actually is. I've shot my buddies .357mag for a cylinder or two and didn't really like it. However, it did have a lot of felt recoil and muzzle jump.

Also, do you know if they make rubber grips for the Mateba? Obviously Hogue isn't going to carry them, but I thought someone might have them.

Im 5'8 155+lbs. the recoil on the mateba is almost NON exsistant in .44 mag. the action and heavy weight soaks up much of the punch, No rubber, No afterMarket accessories out there ive had my mateba for yrs. AND they recommend the gun be SENT back to the factory for DETAILED cleanings as to no disturb the Loctite on those vital areas. :-( Gotta love it. Still a neat tool in the box.

Soo... what you're saying is that I need to have some grips molded for one if I get one, right? Haha. I laugh, but it shouldn't be that hard to accomplish, should it? Hmmm...

Thanks for the info about the .44mag. Having never shot either .44 or .454, I would have been a little nervous about it, but hearing that there's practically no recoil with .44, I'm not afraid of .454.

Not sure if this next question fits here or not. Has anyone considered hunting with this gun? Way I figure it, an 8" barrel should be pretty accurate, especially with all that spine along the barrel. Also, won't the .454 Casull kill any creature on this continent? Does anyone know if it's good for creatures in, say, Africa? :)

remember ....no recoil w/ a .44 mag. is myth :) BUT JUST VERY managable. other than maintaince issues in the field it would make a fine Hunting sidearm, altough Id go blued not nickel :)

Just how big a fella are ya'?
Uhm... can I answer with metrical measures? (185 cm x 72kg...) I'm quite tall and slim... however I've some video clips of the very first shots, if you give me an e-mail address I can send you some of them (nearly 4mb each).

There's even a .41 version.
I don't know if it ever reached U.S.A., it should be extremely rare...

Thanks for the heads up.... I bet extremely rare = extremely expensive.

Where is the :fallsover: icon when you need it. :uhoh:
Oh well, on with the completely unnecessary quest. :D
