I recently traded my Glock 17 for this Mauser 1914/34 fifth variant (aka the transitional model). Wanted to start collecting old pocket pistols and this one was a good one to start the collection. It’s in really good condition and the fire blue on the some of the parts is still in good shape. When I traded it, I didn’t know that the magazine in it was an aftermarket (feels like a triple K mag) magazine. I’ve looked at after market magazines for the 1914/34 and they don’t look like the one that came with my pistol (I’m thinking it might be an HSC magazine but I’m not sure). This magazine is not reliable at all. Stovepipes about every 5 rounds and isn’t the right geometry so it sometimes disengages the magazine safety and kills the trigger. I just got back from the Ohio Gun Collectors show this weekend and only found one guy with them and he wanted $150 a piece for them. I’ve seen them online for anywhere from $150-500. I’ve also seen that the aftermarket triple K magazines are anywhere from $40-70. My question is, are the triple K magazines worth it or should I suck it up and pay for originals? (I’d also be happy to buy one from someone on here for the right price :))

A dealer here once said of KKK magazines, "Just keep sending it back until you get one that works."

I am not so patient, I paid more for clips that work.

I have a 1910 Mauser and one of the TripleK mags for it. Havent shot it a whole lot with it, but its functioned fine when I have.

Maybe buy one and see how it goes?

Yeah I’m tempted to. I have a Winchester 1907 and I bought a triple K extended 10 round mag for it. It functions fine with alittle modifications so I’m thinking I might have to do the same with this.

From what other members have posted over the years, sometimes Triple K mags work. Sometimes they don't. Might be worth a shot, for that amount of savings.

Those are cool little pistols. I enjoy mine. :)

Sad fact: many original mags for classic old pistols have gotten pricey. Try pricing an original Swiss P49 magazine and you'll see what I mean.

Mec-Gar doesn't do Mauser and they seem to make about the best aftermarket mags, so I'm of the opinion that you may be better off just shopping around until you find an original at a price you can live with. Try one of the really big gunshows, since online sellers watch the market and hold out for high prices. Depending on your budget, you might search for years to find one under a hundred bucks unless you luck into one from someone who doesn't know the current market for what he has.

FWIW, the last reasonably good deal I found like this was an original, dual tone Colt 1903 .32 magazine for $35. The catch was that I spent over an hour with solvents removing hardened adhesive from the outside where a piece of masking tape had fossilized. I managed to get it off without damaging the finish, but factor an hour's labor into the price I paid.

Yeah I was searching the junk/miscellaneous magazine boxes at the OGCA show. I think I’ll have to keep looking. I’m probably gonna buy after market mags for now and then buy an original when I find a good price

Good start to your collection. I have been looking to add one for long enough to regret passing on more than a few of them. Pocket pistols are great fun to collect. For decades they were plentiful and cheap. Nowadays a lot more folks have discovered them so prices have shot up and they are harder to find.

Magazines are getting harder to find than guns these days and prices are more than I paid for some guns with mags included. I don't shoot mine enough to worry about having extras @$100+. Triple Ks are great when they work and bad when the don't. I run about 50-50 with them.

Common to pistols and magazine rifles not made for over one hundred years or there about ago. Firing pins are rare too, but are easier to make and less noticeable than magazines.

Yes, I collect small automatics of that era as well. And WW1 era rifles.
