sorry if I'm beating a month old dead horse here... I've got a good ol' mauser that's been sporterized, so no worries about hurting it's collectors value or destroying a piece of history or any of that jazz, someone's already done that for me ;-)

I'm looking for some see through scope mounts that I don't have to take it to a gunsmith for... I'm all ears for any suggestions. I have no problem doing whatever I need to do to the gun, short of drilling and tapping, I'm worried I'd drill a bit too far and make a mess out of something.

anyhow, any suggestions? I don't want to spend over 100 bucks doing this, since it's a hundred dollar gun on a good day. ;-)

I want see through scope mounts though, I really want to retain my iron sights on the rifle because I live in the mountains and 90% of our shots are pretty darn close, the other 10% you need a scope for.

Thanks for your recommendation though.

Short of drill and tapping the receiver (I would have it done by a professional) there aren't too many options, especially if you want see through rings. My personal choice would be drill and tap and use a 1.5X7 variable. Just use the low setting for close range and the higher powers for longer distances. See through rings tend to force the head to be held high screwing the cheek weld.

This one may work for you tho I have no idea how well it would hold as I have never tried it http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/11652-34.html

I put a scope mount setup on my 24/47 mauser

You may find that the see through type mounts will be MUCH more hassle than they are worth, because you will need a proper cheek weld to shoot optimally, and the added height that the see through gives you makes that very hard.

I have a Redfield 3X9 and it is perfect for close and far shots.

I am always set at 3 when I stalk hunt.

The mount that I used made the iron sights unusable anyway
