I just bought a new Maverick 88 security, took it out and fired about 20 rounds of slugs and buckshot and it shot and functioned great. However after cleaning and tightening the barrel nut back on, I noticed the stock moved slightly. This is a brand new gun and the stock is loose, could this be a defect or normal? what type screwdriver removes the pad, should I use blue loctite on the bolt and what size is the bolt in the stock? Thanks for any help.

On mine, the recoil pad is held on with phillips screws, and the stock with a hex bolt (1/2 or 9/16, I think). Unless you find something wonky when you get in there , I wouldn’t fret about it loosening up. I used loctite. I also filled my stock with fiberglass resin to add some heft. I used pvc from the bolt-head to the butt to leave an open channel for access to the bolt.

Phillips head screwdriver #2 to get the rubber pad off. Long shank flat head screwdriver to tighten the stock bolt. I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens every time you shoot it.

If you have an impact driver, give the stock bolt a second of impact will make it tight forever. If you’re handy, you can grind an old paddle bit to make a dedicated driver bit that fits right.

If it happens to be the forearm is lose on the action bars, a needle nosed pliers used across the spammer notches in the nut will get you going in a pinch. Just be careful not to slip it and mangle the notches or pinch yourself or scar the forearm.
