For anyone with with experience with Safariland Speedloaders, are the Safariland Comp 3 speedloaders better than Comp 2 and Comp 1? (I did read that Safariland is generally preferred over HKS.) Thank you.

They are better for competiton because they are spring loaded to throw the cartridges into the cylinder. They are about three times as long, though, and would take up a lot of room for defense or duty reloads. For which I would use a Comp II.

Like Jim said the Comp3 is pretty much strictly for competition, while the 1 & 2 are better for defense. I preffer the Comp 1 for pocket carry, but the comp2 gets the nod for carry in a speed loader pouch.

As for the Safariland being prefered over the HKS, I'd bet it goes pretty much 50/50. Each do some things better than the other. Safarilands can be had much smaller for pocket carry, but HKS has better retention of rounds when carried in something like a split-six belt carrier. HKS also makes a loader to fit about every revolver made with a swing out cylinder. I have trouble finding Comps for some guns.

I bought 2 COMP 2 type .357/.38 speedloaders. They work well. I would not think the different models would matter that much. The comp 3 models are used for target/match use. You only load the speedloader with the knobs so it's size is no big deal. The comp 2 speedloader is what I would buy if I were you.
